Apparently the world will end as we know it on 21st december 2012 (my 26th bday! I was hoping to get further than that lol) I just wondered what everyones thoughts were... is it just like the millenium - fuss over nothing or is the world going to see a new side to mother nature... or the total end of earth consumed by the heat of the sun as it blows up...? Interested in what anyone has to say - no rights or wrongs, just wanted to know peoples theories |

| That's a good question Rachaelpie... I'm not certain what I would myself choose to believe, but I'd rather try to see things positively Also remember that we create our own reality, so I guess if we focus too hard on negative thoughts about what will happen on that date, then indeed, we'll make it come true ! |

| Many people think that what could be happening will be a form of punishment. I don't believe in punishing, it relates to guilt. If something happens, it won't be the product of guilt or anything such, in my opinion, but it will be the right consequence of our actions (pollution, wasting resources, destroying the environment etc). I guess if it does happen, it will be a form of wake up call. Many people are still very deeply asleep thinking that nothing can disturb their comfort and security zones, even though many of their actions lack consciousness... Consciousness of what the consequences could and will be. |

I don't think there is any reason to believe the world will end on that date. It is the cyclical end date of the mayan long count calendar, but the Mayans never predicted any "end of the world." Instead, all kinds of groups... New Agers, doomsday-sayers, and others have projected their greatest hopes and fears onto that date. Obviously there is increasing anxiety about the state of the world right now. Is this connected to 2012? The Mayans timed the end date of the calendar to a rare alignment of the solstice sun with the "dark rift" in the Milky Way. To them, this was a symbol of rebirth and transformation. There is also a complex mythology associated with astronomy and this date falls into play. But end of the world? No. |

There have been various (18) other threads on the topic. You could search for "2012" if you are interested in even more points of view. Also, Erin wrote a blog article on it a while ago: 2012 and the End of the World |

As a species, man will have to colonize other planets in order to survive. Eventually, the earth will die/be destroyed. The hot, inner core is cooling down. It could spin off its axis and head towards, or away from, the sun. The earth is a rock, spinning in space, one of billions. It has a life cycle. It just happens to have a green coating on it (like moss), composed of various living species which rise and fall according to climatic conditions and events such as being struck by asteroids, etc. If our consciousness is so smart, perhaps we can reincarnate in non-carbon based life forms on other planets. As far as 2012 goes, who knows? |

NAH no end of the world. The end of time is a different story. Time doesn't exist anyways. The passing of time is just an illusion. All of eternity is happening simultaneously, right now. The past never fades away and the future has already happened. Events are laid out like an infinite landscape that we just happen to move through in one direction. "they're selling you time with repeat stimuli right in front of your eyes til you feel paralyzed. you're the only one that can define real. tell me right now how you really feel!" psychics are unable to see what happens past 2012 and it gets blurry the closer to 2012 they look.they say its because we all create our own reality and more and more folks are "waking up" to that fact. 2012 will be when we are all doing that apparently which is why they can't see what's going to happen |

I don't see all of humanity suddenly waking up...but I do see a shift in awareness and "vibration", or level of consciousness. The times, they are a-changing. Always. And if the worst happens: what's a single world in a single universe, anyway? We have all creation to choose from, no matter what happens here. |

If anything happens, it will be a self fulfilling prophecy phenomenon. Lots of people believe something bad will happen, therefore there will be panic and that increases the likelihood that something bad could indeed happen, still this bad thing would not be very big anyway, probably just a bunch of wackos commiting mass suicide or something. If it weren't for panicky humans, nothing will happen of course, all this fear and the theory that the Mayans could predict something that would happen in a far away date is utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, i mean, they couldn't even hold their civilization together, how the heck could they predict the exact date when there will be "major changes" or whatever else. Their calendar ended in 2012 probably just because they were too lazy to make it any longer lol. And they were right in not bothering with a longer calendar, after all their civilization ended far before 2012. They would be rolling out laughing if they knew all the fuss that their laziness to make a bigger calendar created in a civilization where many people, given the high amount of information available, should know better and search for credible info. My favorite theory is that the way space/time field is shaped, will invert. So how we experience time will feel like how we currently feel space. I'm also looking forward to the amazing light show we'll be having from the solar flares. I expect a lot of people are gonna freak out becuase they maybe huge satelitte problems, who knows the sun could emit a complete of emps and take out power and throw us back to the dark ages. Either way I think it'll be a grand time to live to tell your grandchildren about. |

My girlfriend is hoping to have a big party with all our friends with birthdays around that time. The 22nd (just after midnight) will be her 26th too. The most likely danger for most participants will be a hang over.

I'm going with changes in consciousness which are starting already. This will be a good thing for those who have learned to live in their present moment rather than in the past or the future.

Yes, it will be a real hoot being thrown back into the dark ages. However, the barbarian hordes, driven mad from starvation due to the breakdown of food production, will probably eat your grandchildren. seeds | |

This much ado about nothing. The Mayan calendar ends on that date, just as the calendar on your wall ends at December 31st. According to the Mayans (as well as modern scientists), the sun will be aligned with the center of our galaxy on that date, but that's only from OUR perspective here on Earth or in our particular solar system.. From billions of other perspectives or points in space, it's not; nor is it even close. The Sun does have very dynamic cycles. It's not static like the earth and it can affect our climate and lots of other things. It's not coming out of it's current 11 year cycle as quickly as the experts had believed, but this can happen at any time; which is why I'm very skeptical about the whole climate change debate and don't believe it's leading us into a major catastrophe. Mars is warming as well, as is Pluto and a few moons out there that we know of but no one's burning fossil fuels out there. That's the topic of another discussion, but it is relevant to this one as well because the solar cycles do have an impact on the climate of earth, as well as other heavenly bodies. I believe that like the Y2K scare, 12/21/12 will come and go with no major changes observed. OTOH, anything can happen here on Earth politically, economically, etc., and we may very well create out own problems between now and then. That's up to us. |

It's interesting how the Mayans could predict the end of the world but couldn't foresee the end of their own civilization. Predictions like this violate what (I believe) is our birthright of deciding our own fates, and choosing our own destiny. It's no better than the Christian belief in the rapture and the End Times/AntiChrist™. It always perplexes me when I see someone overjoyed in the idea that their free-will is going to vanish because of some prophecy. I like to think we get to create our own realities, for ourselves. I don't put the Mayans above my own personal power. Sorry. |
