It seems to be that an integral part of raising consciousness is helping others. Furthermore, the more one's consciousness is raised, the more one wants to help others and the more one sees their life's work as helping others. For example, Steve started in the gaming industry and his personal growth led him down the path of eventually quitting the gaming industry and creating this blog. Other individuals, such as those seen in The Secret, also devote the majority of their time to helping others by teaching them The Secret, etc. So it seems that a natural goal, say, of elevating one's consciousness is continually helping others. But it is necessary to enter the personal development business in order to do this? I'm really getting quite involved with personal development and the Law of Attraction and The Secret and it has always been my life-long goal to become an attorney and help people that way...but it seems that if I really want to elevate my consciousness, I need to do more than that. I can't just be an attorney and help people that way. (I might not even want to if my consciousness really starts to elevate, I don't know) But it seems like one naturally enters this business that way. What do you guys think? |

It's all in the intention. It doesn't really matter (from a spiritual/metaphysical standpoint) what you do, but what your intention is in doing it (serving God and the others, bringing Love into the world). I'm reminded of Nisargadatta Maharaj, who was a bidi (cigarette/smoke) shop owner in India and who became enlightened. While Mother Theresa was out running around saving India's poor and hungry, he just sat in his bidi shop for the rest of his life, lecturing spiritual seekers Also remember, you personally are also part of the "others" you're trying to help Don't change anything because what others do or say, do it because it is a natural consequence of who you've become (or want to become). It should feel more like you've outgrown your previous career/goals, and that something else is more important to focus on now. I guess what I want to say is, keep the main goal of raising consciousness in mind, but there are a million paths to do so. The outward form or shape of the path doesn't matter as much as the intention and dedication to your main goal, raising consciousness. You'll be helping people spiritually, though it may not seem like it in the physical realm, just as a consequence of your higher consciousness. |

First, no career is permanent. There's no reason you can't be an attorney now and then something else when you feel called to make a change. Let your career be a reflection of who you are right now. You can bring higher consciousness to any fields, and law is certainly one that would benefit from more conscious decision-making. Secondly, at higher levels of consciousness, helping others and helping yourself become equivalent. In the long run, a heart cell cannot reach its full potential without helping the brain cells in the same body. While there is a degree of achievement that can be had in isolation, it's nothing compared to what can be done by working for the good of the whole body. If you want to live an extraordinary life, you must eventually take responsibility for building an extraordinary environment. Whenever you help someone... somewhere... experience some kind of gain, you help the entire planet. Perhaps that effect is very small, but the effect is there. Helping the planet creates a better environment in which you live, which therefore benefits you as well. Moreover, a deep sense of joy comes through when you know without a doubt you're living a life that's having this kind of effect.
