Default Eckhart Tolle's 'The Power of Now' - Thoughts

I've just started reading this book and, so far, I find what he has to say interesting.

Basically, I just wanted to know what other people think of it.

I can accept what he says and feel that there is truth in what he says, but a part of me is unsure.

For example, at the moment of writing this I am feeling tired and a little anxious. I can accept that I am feeling tired and that I am feeling a little anxious and I can live them for what they are, but feeling the peace just doesn't happen.

The peace is deeper "inside"
You gradually get through more and more layers of yourself....and then weird stuff starts happening

Hey David,

The feeling of peace comes later...keep reading.

I have a web page on my thoughts on this book on my web page...I can't give you the direct link at this moment as I am behind a FIREwall at work .

If the book makes sense to you at all and you like it...keep reading.

The process of reading the book helps you shift your consciousness.

Also, try some of the exericses he mentions...like trying to feel your heart beating inside your hands. This helps "get you out of your head" and be aware of your body.

In addition, any sort of meditation practice can help you attain the feeling of peace, but there are some beliefs in identity and such that you will probably need to shift a little in order to maintain the peaceful feeling over time.

Check out my web page in my sig if you are interested...if you can't tell I'm kinda interested in this topic

I believe the part of you that is feeling anxious and tired is what Tolle calls the ego mind. I encourage you to continue to read the book several times and really experience the contents. I personally found the book helpful.

That feeling of peace doesn't come right away, at least that was in my case.
But as you keep observing your thoughts and feelings you become able not to let them take over and consume/run you. I started paying attention to my ''negative'' self-talk, to when/why/how I reacted, felt and thought. Then I started asking myself why I was feeling and reacting the way I did. Some interesting things surfaced.
Just keep reading the book and be persistent. I found it to be very useful.

I think The Power Of Now is a great book and the first time I listened to it(audiobook) I actually thought it sounded so weird the way it was recorded and the way Eckhart spoke so I couldn't even finish it.

It actually took me a year or so before I came back and listened to the whole thing.

And I'm glad I did.

If you don't feel too uncomfortable finishing the book I think you should because I believe it has a lot of value to it.

I would also recommend Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" because I think that one is even better and makes things even more clear.

Thank you for your replies.

In hindsight, I suppose I was looking for too much too soon. I will continue reading and I'll probably even read it a second time, which is something I never do with books.

I know where he is coming from: I was meditating a while ago, letting my mind clear of all the constant noise, when I suddenly wondered who or what I would be without all this internal jibberish. I understand that it was probably what Eckhart would call the 'ego-mind' that wondered such a thing but, in spite of that, the thought meant something to me. Or maybe it wasn't a thought? I don't know....is it possible to have a thought that is not a creation of the ego-mind?
