| I am a polyphasic sleeper, have been one for just over a month now. Usually I just post my logs in the polyhpasic thread but today I just had the weirdest and most wonderfull sleep experience ever that I just had to post here to get other responces and ideas on how to pursue this more. I just woke from the weirdest sleep ever. I went to sleep in my car at 10:00 as any other workday. After closing my eyes I fell asleep quickly but from the beginning I was totally aware of not just my dream but also my body. During my 25 minute sleep I could control my consciousness becoming more alert at will and when my leg got stiff, move it a bit and then at will let go of more conciseness to continue dreaming. At a time during my sleep I got more conscious and wondered whether I was maybe oversleeping, then consciously agreed that I would have heard the alarm and then decided to let go more of my consciousness and continue dreaming. After my alarm went of I felt totally refreshed. This was by far the weirdest and most wonderful experience ever. Sleeping like this will mean no more stiffness and never oversleeping. Did anyone experience this before and if so how can I pursue this in happing more often?

| Vuurstorm, This is so weird because I just felt that today. I dont' think to the degree you did though. I don't practice the polyphasic sleeping, though i do wnat to try it. But while meditating this morning I felt myself fallin in deeper, like i was sleeping consciously, but I kept trying to fight it. Then later on in the day while i was meditating again, boom i was out but still awake. And i experience that fresh, alertness your talking about. I've been really interested in experiencing this, ever since I read about it in "Man's Eternal Quest," by Yogananda. I think it's so awesome. Any tips on how to make it happen, or does it just happen?

| Hi, That's interesting, I have had one lucid dream that I can recall. I was totally aware I was on my couch asleep while I was dreaming I was driving my work van. It was fantastic, I had absolute control over everything, but that was many years ago. Nowadays, almost every night when I go to bed I am fully aware of the moment I am about to fall asleep - the problem is, that at that precise moment it feels like my heart is stopping and that startles me back awake. This has been happening for years and makes it difficult to go to sleep. Sometimes I am able to recognize what's going on and just let go, but most of the time it makes me jump back awake and sit up because I can no longer hear my hearbeat. As a nightly thing it can be maddening. I also see all the hypnagogic (is that the correct term?) imagery, dream spindles, etc. every night, I usually witness entire scenes playing out in front of my closed eyes - just before the heart stopping feeling happens. Though I no longer have sleep paralysis. I know there is a key in all of this to another level of awareness, but I seem to be perpetually stuck in the "heart just stopped - freak out" mode. Anyone else have this?
