Default Do you ever get annoyed by people calling things "spiritual"

I used to use this word. But It seems more and more silly too me. Really there is two things. Consciousness itself. The dream of life. And science. The investigation and growing awareness of this consciousness itself.
It seems to me that people use spirituality as a definition for themself or others on a different consciousness without life. But really everything is spiritual. im a spiritual being right now. My desk is spiritual. Everything exists in these other dimensions or consciousness. So it doesnt need a name to explain it.

I find this also attracts people that cant explain anything to themselves and make images of this other world in there head full of all there prejudice of ego. This brings the creation of dumb things like "spiritual music and art" When really all music is spiritual. People tag "spiritual" to sell there bad pan pipe music! I think people dont want to admit them being on the toilet or doing a crappy job is spiritual so they need to separate it with a time when they light intense and meditate. yeah sure these things are spiritual. But there just altering your state of consciousness in one particular way. There are so many different consousnesses you can have and the ones people are sold and taged as "spiritual" are just another one of them.

Anyone agree with me?

Thanks.

I think you should just let it go, it seems like it's just getting you worked up over a dumb word.

Yeah, there seem to be a lot of words like that.

I hear people talk about being "awakened" when all they really mean is recognizing that they have an ego and that they're not they're thoughts. That's all. They talk about their awakenings, but have not yet awakened out beyond the dream directly.

Then there's enlightenment. The other day I was listening to something about enlightened business.. based on the premise of people working in harmony with light and integrity instead of darkness and whatnot. Same word, but radically different from how I use it.

When I was into fiddling with computers, we used to differentiate between hackers and crackers. Hackers were "good" and crackers were "bad".. in a nutshell. Both might know how to break into computers, but only the latter would do it with malicious intent. Anyways, the media would only use the word "hackers" and so that word has evolved to mean something else beyond its original meaning.

So yeah, these silly words are just pointers. Seeing people misuse these words used to piss me off too. I guess we can get attached to pointers the way many religious nuts get attached to their dogma. "Don't you insult my Jesus!"

Same song, different tune I suppose. Just more human ego doing what ego does and getting stuck on our ideas and beliefs, and more opportunity for us to go beyond our "stuff."

um, in answer to your initial question: yes.

but not exactly for the same reasons...i think people overuse the word to make everything ok in some way...like murder.

not everything, including use of the toilet is spiritual...that is why i think it is overused.

but "om," it is never gonna change some people...so i agree, ya gotta let it go

Well, if someone is on a toilet aren't they doing a crappy job anyway?
That was just a joke...

But in terms of the word spiritual, in a way you could say that everything is spiritual, but the thing is that words are just pointers. You can make words mean anything. You can also call anything good or bad. Don't get worked up about people's word choice, though I can see why it gets annoying.

Wink

I think that spirituality is actually the lower level word for- philosophy. Just a more cool (beginners) way of saying it?!?

I use the word for anything that has to do with waking up from the dream.

Many people are completely asleep and go through life without realizing the miracle of it all. These people are not yet 'sprititually' aware. Nothing wrong with it; that's just the place they are at.

I agree with you that you should have a clear definition of what it means and should not use it for everything.

"Spirituality", like "God", is merely a catch-all term that pretty much captures and conveys nothing.

Me neither.

The more spiritual I become, the less annoyed I get.
