Question I can't astral project anymore?!?

I started having astral projections when I was 20-- right around the time my mother died. I didn't know what was happening to me... when they would occur, I'd just get up and wander around the house, thinking I was actually awake. Suddenly I would really awaken back inside my body lying in bed... so I knew it was something out of the ordinary. I looked into it and discovered I was having astral projections or spontaneous out-of-body experiences.
I got really excited and looked into it further, reading whatever material I could get my hands on. I discovered how to intentionally induce my own OBE whenever I wanted one if I just put my mind to it. I got really good at it... but I could never stay out of body for very long... and my astral vision was always blurry or dark.

Then... for no reason I can figure out... they stopped happening. I've been trying for months and I can't seem to induce another OBE! I'm really upset by this, because I was just getting the hang of it and I kept promising myself I would do some exploring outside my house. I was having so much fun! Now I feel like I'm locked in my body and I can't get out! I've tried every method there is (as far as I know)... body of light, visualization, meditation, disturbing my own sleep, climbing a "rope"... but nothing happens. I'll drift off to sleep and wake up annoyed.

What am I doing wrong?? I feel like I've lost a piece of myself... and I want it back!

I suggest you research two basic reasons for the stoppage of astral projection.
Reason #1: Having some type of anxiety, some type of mental stress which keeps your mind preoccupied with the physical level of existence even when your body is sleeping. This keeps your astral form hog-tied to the physical body and to the physical brain especially.
You could eliminate this by reviewing your thoughts and finding whatever it is that causes some type of chronic anxiety.
Reason #2: Lack of sufficient psychic energy in the subtle body during sleep. Astral projection occurs when the astral body breaks away from or de-synchronizes from the physical form, but if the astral body is low in energy for any reason, then there will be no astral recall of dreams or of other dimensional experiences. In other words even if you are astral projecting you will have no recall of it because the system for recalling it is shut down due to a lack of sufficiency psychic energy.
In the yoga system this psychic energy is called prana and sometimes it is called kundalini. When this energy is low, there is no astral recall.
It is not easy to explain why this energy would be low, because there might be various reasons or combinations of reasons. I discussed some of this in my recent book* on meditation.

I believe it's more important to let go of your attachment to astral projection than it is to question why you can no longer do it. Your attachment's only bringing you unnecessary suffering.

Mybeloved! Thank you so much for your advice. I really think it may be my anxiety that's keeping me "hogtied." I haven't been taking my St. John's Wort like I usually do for my anxiety disorder. I just didn't realize it could have such an effect on me

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer everyone's questions about astral projection. You really know your stuff!

I appreciate your advice too... though I don't feel I'm "suffering" unnecessarily...

I'll admit that I'm upset I'm having such a difficult time with this lately... but it's a skill that needs to be practiced and perfected. And I believe it's a valuable skill-- so I'm willing to put in the effort to perfect it.

If I were having a difficult time writing a novel or creating a work of art, you wouldn't tell me to give up because it's causing me unnecessary suffering, would you?

Thumbs up Hello and advice

Yes, that is all very good advice, I'm new here butI hope I can still be helpfull; remember one of the key things about succesfully accomplishing astral projection is to be completely relaxed, yet concentrated on keeping your consciousness, so excuse the cliche but you may be simply trying to hard.
