Default Subconscious as a Tool

Hey Everyone,

Today I felt like posting a little bit about people's subconscious. In personal development circles, you can often find people discussing the subconscious as a tool: How to develop better habits, how to reprogram their subconscious, and neural linguistic programming (NLP) are all relatively hot button topics. Also lately, there's been a trend in pickup circles and dating advice on how to connect with or manipulate a target's subconscious to get a certain reaction. And that's all good but I like to talk about those principles in a different and possibly more appealing way.

I like to focus on using the subconscious to do much more abstract and
all-encompassing things. For instance, have you considered reprogramming your subconscious towards higher levels of trust or towards greater abundance or towards more powerful attraction? Wouldn't those be amazing habits to have? Instead of using the subconscious just to keep you breathing or to get yourself up in the morning we can consciously choose to have it handle more amazing tasks.

Some people can get their subconscious to handle extremely complex things. Many Guinness world record holders and pro-athletes or magicians are good examples of this. They can manage daunting endeavors, often times while carrying a conversation or doing something else consciously. Their subconscious takes care of the rest. This is a fantastic tool/skill to have available and have access to and we are all blessed with a subconscious.

I'm intentionally not making this a how to or getting into details. I'm really just posting to bring people's focus to something that maybe a bit uncommon to ponder on. Perhaps down the road I'll get into it further. Or you can PM me, if you're sincerely interested.

Perhaps you've never really given any thought to it before. Perhaps it's not a subject that's come up for you. And perhaps, this post is helping that change. Thanks so much for your attention, have an awesome day.

Hi, Arthur. What you're talking about is pretty much what master hypnotists and master NLP practitioners focus on - what I refer to as "heart's desires."

You might hear more about what clients are consciously focusing on -- losing weight, stop smoking, pick up chicks, find romance, be confident -- and at the same time the therapist is helping the client to achieve their conscious desire, they're also using their tools to get the client in rapport with their unconscious mind: their deeply held values, beliefs, attitudes, and sense of identity.

So the client (including when the self is client) gets positive results that spill out into areas of their lives that the client wasn't focusing on consciously.

For instance, a client who wants to stop smoking may be being stopped by her unconscious belief that smoking is her way of getting a break. Her unconscious mind "protects" her ability to take breaks by preventing her from giving up cigarettes. The skilled NLP practitioner or hypnotist helps her to find new, better means of getting what she unconsciously wants, without having the old, unhelpful behavior, and the client develops all kinds of positive inner resources out of that -- things like courage, healthy boundary-setting, boldness, calm, peace, attractiveness, and connection -- that would have consciously seemed to the client as totally unrelated to giving up smoking.

Plus, getting consciously in rapport with your unconscious mind, and helping others to do it, too, is just plain fun!

Angela, thank you so much, what a phenomenal post. You rock. That was a perfect supplement to what I wrote. There are many paths, direct and not so direct in life. Rock on.
