How to get into the alpha level?
Hey, I'm seeking advice on the best way of getting into the alpha level? Or generally other peoples preferred methods as I would like to learn how to access the alpha level of mind.

Just close your eyes. When you close your eyes, your brain automatically starts generating alpha waves. Focusing on your breath and putting some soundscape-type music on will help you to get out of normal waking "processor" mode and into a more relaxed and receptive state.
And self-hypnosis, of course. Just place your awareness on your toes. Now move that awareness into the balls of your feet. And now the insteps. Be aware of your heels as you breathe deeply and relax. Now gently move your awareness into the hollows behind your ankles as you relax even more. And now take another nice breath as you place your awareness in your anklebones.
If you followed my directions, you were going into alpha state. Continue on up your body and enjoy the feeling!

My mother is an EEG technician - one of the first registered in this country back in the late '70s. She used to say that Nuns had the most beautiful Alpha waves she'd ever seen. "Probably from all that praying," she'd say.

you can feel the brain changing to comply with your request.
you can also do the same thing with beta, theta and delta... just ask that your mind can remain aware and produce predominantly delta waves - brain is producing mostly delta waves...
give it a try...

Personally, I like to start by taking a deep breath, letting go of the breath, and then concentrating on inner silence.
I allow myself to sink into the depths of unconsciousness/relaxation, while maintaining a small thread of awareness. I allow my body to relax more with each breath, and concentrate on relief with every exhale. As I approach the slower brain wave states, I enter the hypnagogic level and images almost create themselves with little prompting from me.
I try to paint a peaceful scene to observe. Like imagining i'm sitting next to a peaceful stream or something similar -- perhaps even a distant uninhabited planet, or under the ocean. Use your imagination.
The key is to produce a dream like state of awareness, but without the lack of self awareness that usually accompanies it. With practice, you will even go past alpha brain waves and enter the theta levels, where it gets really interesting.

New alpha audio/video
I've just posted a new alpha meditation audio (with trippy visuals, in case you're keeping your eyes open) that you might enjoy using to get into the alpha state easily and effortlessly.
It's an "empty" meditation -- there is no content or suggestion. You can use it either to zone out and rest your mind, or to assist you in getting your conscious desires in alignment with your unconscious mind, by repeating suggestions to yourself or visualizing desired outcomes.
