Default Remaining Aware

I find the biggest problem with awareness is the frustration of knowing you are unconscious. How do people overcome this?

Last night I felt depressed, though gave in and constructed all kinds of mental abstractions that affected my actions. I new I was allowing it to rule me, but kind of liked it.

This morning, after meditating on two ocassions and getting fresh air I finally snapped out of it by telling myself I was living a dream, I had fallen asleep and was no longer experiencing reality.

Now, although I am able to concentrate again, I realise that I often give in to the frustration of not being aware.

I have one other question. I have difficulties in my life that I could address imediately, however, when I surrender to what is and feel happy they don't exist. Then, at other times I wonder if I am just ignoring these issues and showing poor judgement by prolonging this situation.

Thank you for reading.

Become conscious.

Sounds good to me. You want to be happy, right? And you've found a way of making yourself happy? Maybe you could remain in this happy state while you take action towards your goals.

Hang on, are you procrastinating? Then yes, that may become a problem for you. If you want to take some sort of action, but decide to stand still and do nothing, you'll confuse yourself.

The question is, what do you want to achieve? You have to choose what you want, and then go after it. Your mind probably wants clear instructions, not more ambiguity.

There are even some situations where it can be useful to let yourself "sink to the bottom" - i.e. consciously break down, let go of your muscles and your thoughts - so that you can pick yourself up again and start from square one. If your energy levels are low, this can be a good way of giving yourself a boost. Break down and get back up, more refreshed than before.

Yabadoo, I can tell you what worked for me. By using some type of reminder, like a watch that buzzes or vibrates every thirty minutes or so, you immediately come back into the moment. Not only that but you can reflect back to where your thinking was a second before it buzzed. For example, if your mind was wandering and thinking about something other than what your body was doing and it buzzes, it brings you back into the moment. You can also look back and see that you were in "waking sleep," not in the moment. The method also works for higher levels of conscousness like awareness and pure awareness.

Recognize that who you truly are is never unconscious, for you are consciousness itself. That which is conscious of the unconsciousness.

Here's a cool clip of Mooji guiding a lady through self-inquiry, someone who keeps "losing it" as you would say.

YouTube - Who decides? 2/2

What you really are can't be lost and so there's really no problem of ever losing awareness. What's actually happening is that awareness loses the recognition that it is aware of itself. It loses Self-consciousness, which is another story entirely. It just becomes a matter of practice of using inquiry to lead awareness back unto itself by asking what is aware of whatever content is being witnessed in the moment.

Also, on the topic of "losing awareness," here's another cool video that helps clear up this subject:

YouTube - Bashar - about losing awareness

This is useful - I often try to supress sinking to the botton, yet such an event may encourage decisions and decisive action.

Spacedout - I am going to try this method.

These videos are awesome and fit exactly with the doubts I am having.

I have a lot to learn, however, the changes happening in my life have occured from realising simply that I am responsible for my own happiness and not external events. It has changed my ambitions and made me look at myself over the last 8 years as a fool!!

What they don't teach you at school is how to look after yourself and your own destiny - instead I strongly believe they encourage desires that are outside of yourself - they encourage the ability to view yourself from what you believe to be others perception of yourself - which is madness and self defeating. We need some fundamental changes to enourage selfishness!! We should call more spiritual teachers to policy decisions within government.

Appologies for going a little of topic.
