Default religious customs

Hi I believe that most or all the rituals or customs in different religion either have an hidden scientific message or were created to suit the lifestyle then. I have often wondered on certain aspects like
1. why do men and women in hinduism wear a red dot on their forehead at auspicious time?
2. most of the religions i know encourage the wear of an headgear during worship..wat significance does this have?

I suspect this relates to the flow of eternal energy within us...well that was just a guess.
can anyone enlighten me on this aspect would be really interesting to know your views

I think that Indian women wear the red (or other colour) dot because that symbolises third eye chakra but I might be wrong here.

You can just ask directly the people in such religions what that means.

People have their own particular customs in the various religions because they like to be different and feel like their religion is the best. It's all about ego.

hmmm Simonarich,
I asked a few and i got varied answers most of them donnot know themselves. some said ornamental some said it was to distinguish themselves. however as you say i guess it shud have connections wiht the 3rd eye.

i donnot think much of ego is involved in the customs ..well maybe now but initially no. I firmly believe there has to be a reason to everything be a a trivial one.

I think you are right, and the idea fascinates me.

Every custom, every habit, has a lifestyle-related reason behind it. This is why I love travel so much; there are such stark lifestyle differences.
