Default Death and Religion

I spent about 17 years in a fundamentalist Christian cult (Jehovah's Witnesses) and realized recently that my self-extrication from the cult seemed to be related to the long, messy-but-dignified death of my father from a stroke. And later, I realized that my initial attraction to Christianity was probably related to witnessing the death of a friend while still in Junior High. So death and religion have a relationship, a fact that's exploited by many religions. My thoughts on the matter are written up in an essay here:

Death & Religion

I try to point out that religion is not necessarily the best response to a loved one's death.

Please take a look and tell me what you think. I look forward to your thoughts on the matter.

cheers,
Angus

Just wanted to thank the people from this forum who've been checking out my post Death and Religion at Belief Systems & Other BS. My site is new, and this post has already double the number of previous hits in a day, mostly from Reddit.

Thanks!
Angus

personally i think logical cosmology points more towards either an eternal end to the self, or a reincarnation of the self over and over eternally.

the monotheistic version of an 'afterlife' to me seems more based off emotions then any real logic or proper philosophy

I tend to believe that death is going to be fun. Beyond that, I'm not sure anyone knows anything.
