Hello. I am new to these forums, but I have read through quite a bit of this site, and listened to all of Steve and Erin’s pod casts. I would like to start by thanking Steve for initiating this community. It is amazing. I have some concerns that perhaps some of you could help me with. I have a strong belief in the law of attraction. After listening to Steve’s pod cast on the nature of reality, I realize that, in many respects, we share a very similar model of reality. However, there are a few fundamental differences that throw a wrench in the works for me. One: If I am the only consciousness, and am generating my reality, then I am also generating the really scary concept of God that exists in my reality. I too was raised a catholic, and then my folks switched to a very Pentecostal “fire and brimstone” Protestant thing. Twenty years of thought experiments, rationalization, reading and rereading multiple and diverse world religious texts, personal development material in inordinate amounts, and a degree in psychology and a minor in philosophy has done little to eradicate the shape shifting being that constantly moves to just beyond the edges of my reality to stand guard and persecute me. After reading all of Neal Donald Walsh’s “Conversations with God” series, I really tried to embrace a belief in a God who does not punish or condemn. Yet this image keeps returning, and there are plenty of choices I have made in this life that this god won’t forgive me for. On the rare occasions that I am able to escape an image of god, karma replaces it as the boogey man in my life. I have accrued such bad karma that there is no way I will succeed. Just when things seem to be picking up a little, my beloved cat Mingus dies. He was only 17 months old. This felt like the hammer of God pounding into me the eternal phrase: “YOU can’t have anything good! And just when you think you have achieved something good, I will take it from you!” Two: As a seeming result of the above, I am a very fearful person. I feel fear almost constantly. It even manifests physically as a sickening tightness in my solar plexus and a pounding head throb in the center of and just behind my forehead. Three: Many people, including my fiancé, believe in my abilities and gifts, but I lack the confidence to fully express them. I feel as though God is punishing me, and that any time I try to create something good he yanks it away. I live in constant fear of this. Four: Oracles such as the I-Ching and various psychics and intuitives seem to always portend struggle and disaster when consulted. While I have these deep Seated fears about the nature of reality, it is difficult to manifest good things. The pod cast on fear tackles practical fears, but not so much these existential types. I know this must all sound like superstitious BS. I am fairly certain it is. But it, this model, feels so deeply ingrained; I do not know where to begin to restructure it. Thanks for taking the time. Sincerely, P.J.

Hi Trace. I also grew up Catholic and until around 5 years ago I too held the same sort of beliefs about God. My paradigm changed from one where I was living within an objective universe to one where I knew that 'I' contains reality, it fragmented itself to experience individuality (slightly different to Steve's subjective reality). You are projecting God outside of yourself, thereby giving away your own ability to create. Trace, you are God, Jesus said, ""That all might be one, Father, even as I am one in you and you are one in me" (Jn. 17.21). All will be one and beyond this illusion, we are one, there only is one. I think the course in miracles says, "there's only one of us here" There is nothing to fear and nothing is worth your worry. Also remember that there are no mistakes. Your beliefs are held at a subconscious level and they need to be changed there, that's why you can feel good for a while and then revert back. 2 ways I know to change that, emotionalised affirmations and subconscious programming through audio programs. Thanks

Thank you for the responses. I have tried various forms of hypnosis, including the visiting of a hypnotherapist for over a year. This has not yet worked. I do agree that my image of God is subconcious. The problem seems to be that any time I get close to really accepting that there is only one conciousness, my projection of god starts to persecute me, and nasty things manifest in my life.

P.J.... The judgmental "God" you keep conjuring up whenever you feel about to make a breakthrough is there because you have yet to forgive yourself your misdeeds. You mention in your first post that you have done many things that deserve punishment. That tells me that you continue to feel guilt about these misdeeds, and therefore will not allow yourself the happiness that inside you don't feel you deserve. My advice is that you put aside for now trying to wrap your mind around subjective reality, and first focus inward and find acceptance and forgiveness for yourself. One step in that direction is to concentrate on all the people in your life that have wronged you in one way or another, and find forgiveness in your heart for them. Imagine yourself embracing each and every one of them with warmth and sincerity as you tell them they are forgiven. When you reach the point where you truly harbor no further resentment towards anyone, then you will find it much easier to release the guilt you feel for having wronged others. And once you've forgiven yourself, you will most assuredly stop projecting illusions of a false "God." Moving past the fear of being judged by God for one's "sins" is hard work, but it's not complicated. One simply must find that part within themselves that has evolved past anger and vindictiveness to the point where we just cannot imagine ourselves not being able to forgive even the worst person. If you believe in your heart that you are capable of inflicting horrible pain and suffering on deserving sinners, then it's quite easy to accept the existence of a God who sends sinners to eternal damnation. However, if you know to the core of your being that you could not tolerate such suffering in others -- even the most deserving -- then you have evolved spiritually beyond the very "God" whom you fear. And since it's pure insanity to believe in a God that is actually LESS evolved than yourself, then it becomes quite logical for the mind to accept that such a God cannot and does not exist. Once you have achieved this point, you can return your focus once again towards the study of subjective reality, and I believe you'll find that your phantoms have disappeared. ~ RS

| Wow, you put a lot of emotion into explaining the inner persucution that you live with everyday. You say you feel fear almost constantly, I couldn't even imagine how this feels. If only you could reverse all this negative emotion that has welled up inside you. The fact that you said that you think you are fairly certain this is all superstitious BS sounds like you do at least have a seed of doubt growing in your mind which could eventually help you change the way you habitually feel. You are right it is superstitious BS and none of it does exist, not outside your mind anyway. Your emotions are the most powerful tool you have when it comes to the law of attraction, the more emotion you put into your thoughts the faster you will manifest. If you are as emotional in person as you are as a writer you have the emotional power within you probably more so than anyone else who could help you. Maybe you could re write your post to yourself and reverse everything you said, say you don't feel fear but love all the time, only good things come your way and when they come they stay. The repetition of reading or repeating positive words over and over creates a kinetic form of repetitive energy inside you mind and amazing things can happen when your thought patterns begin to change. I have written extensively on the mind and wrote a specific article on how repetition is the key, you might like to check it out. The link is below. How you feel better soon Trace. John

John. Thank you for your thoughts. I will read your article. I tend to find mantras and afirmation seem to work only on the top level of my I am churning up the surface water on a vast deep sea, and underneath this there is a deep well of fear. I need to get underneath this fear.
