Which is more Spiritually evolved?

Thoughts, folks. Which is more spiritually evolved, a grain of sand or a human?

By what criteria?

A grain of sand could be said to be at the pinnacle of its spiritual evolution, being unable to go farther; it could also be said that it is irrelevant, as it has no *active* consciousness that can develop.

Humans run the gamut - through the course of lives, some may progress 'forward', 'backward' or not 'move' at all in the course of their spiritual evolution.

The key difference between the two is the potential for change - the grain 'IS', while the human can 'become.'

Depends on if you think your thoughts are happening inside your head. Like their thoughts, people think their spirit is located somewhere inside their human body.

I can't imagine a human evolving spiritually, for it implies a human being has a soul or spirit located inside them. I think consciousness can become self aware within the dream, but there's no human/spirit evolution involved.

I don't think there is any difference between the spiritual evolution of a grain of sand or a human. Only my ego would allow me to believe that individuals are more evolved. The search for enlightenment then could be seen as an exercise in ego? Because there is nothing to search for? What say you Judge? Jennifer

From a subjective POV, you are (insert favourite term here like 'god') so you are already perfect and aware in spirit, but for the sake of the dream you have adopted this persona called egoic you (insert your name here) and that ego loves to try out the full range of egoic tools like thought and emotion.

Nothing wrong with ego, itself is a handy tool, but the search for enlightenment is not really a search because you can't become something you already are, same with awareness, you either are aware or you are not.

If you say 'ah, now I'm aware' you have just created something else for ego to attach to and hide in.
