Red face Reiki wonder

I've just completed Reiki Level 1 in Bali with Catherine Wheeler aka Ibu Kat. It's such a wonderful experience and I'm glad to be able to share it with my boyfriend, who attended the workshop with me. Now I'm on my way to find more Reiki friends - Elainedw did Reiki 1 and 2. So are there others who practise Reiki here too? reply to this post or PM me yah?

Yes, I had my Reiki 1 attunement earlier this month. It was very lovely and peaceful and I felt wonderful afterwards.

I really enjoy the sensation of reiki energy flowing though me.

Nice to meet you

Hi Bingjie! How cool that your boyfriend did Reiki with you. I've found Reiki to be really useful when I'm super excited and trying to get to sleep, and on houseplants (lol).

It is good to find more people that do Reiki. I don't know too many either -- though it's interesting, after I took the workshop, friends started saying, "Oh yeah, I'm Reiki II. I never told you that?"

Hi,
I've been utilizing Reiki for years now. Powerful stuff. I'm not around a lot of people who utilize it, with the exception of my sister. Nice to meet more.
Steve mentioned that he also does Reiki. You can read about it in his inroduction of himself.

Hello Erki, in my own words, Reiki is basically hands-on healing, where one place his/her hands on any part of the client's (fully clothed) body, or simply on the client's own energy field a.k.a aura. universal energy then flows from the Reiki healer to the client's body, and the energy is smart enough to flow to where the client needs. An expert Reiki healer will be able to quickly scan the client's body to spot out the weak areas and go straight to those areas for more rapid healing. If not, the Reiki healer can just place his/her hands on the client's head.

What I experienced when "Reiki-ing" somebody ranges from sensation of small popcorn popping on the palms to heavy pulses just like feeling somebody's heartbeat.

What's great about Reiki is that both the healer and the client usually feel very relaxed during the process. I often dozed off while healing my boyfriend! hee. Since the healer is a medium where energy flows through, the healer benefits from reiki healing as well. The best thing is that after you're attuned to Reiki (whatever level) by a Reiki Master, Reiki healing becomes a lifelong ability to you, even if you've not used it for years.

Now I'm even more excited coz I've just Reiki'ed by mum's (who was quite skeptical about Reiki) aching shoulder joint, she fell asleep soon after. Then she told me she actually felt much better! =D

So you'd go for Reiki Level 1 yah? =D

I was attuned to reiki level 2 when I was 17. The only time I felt the energy was one time, when I had my first reiki healing. {the person doing reiki on me also incorporated other healing modalities in his practice, so it was a mix of different healing energy sources, so I wouldn't exactly call it a reiki healing, now that I think of it} It was a great experience, which lead me to becoming attuned to reiki level 2 traditional practioner level.

After being attuned and trying to feel the energy for months with no due, and no healing benefits I gave up doing it. I tried meditating for months just to feel the energy more and using the different reiki symbols to become a more powerful conduit of the energy but nothing seemed to work. I tried it on a couple of family members & friends, and have no miraculous experiences to tell you about. In my experience reiki is a pretty weak energy, at least in my body. I spent 500$ becoming a reiki level 2 practioner. You'd think I'd feel something.

It really made me so angry that I ripped up my reiki material and burned the reiki teacher's pictures. I hope they liked that. lol

I learned one thing. Healing energy is free for all. You shouldn't have to pay for it. I've had incredible healing results with "raw food" and "sound healing or toning". More then reiki ever gave me.

Personally I think there's a lot of BS in the reiki story and how reiki came about, because it's told by Hawayo Takata one of the original teachers who would charge people a leg & arm to be attuned to different levels of reiki. She brought it to america, and clearly had more of an interest in making money then helping people.

When I learned Reiki, I was taught a clearing process, to utilize, first, and scanning to fix on what exactly is going on in the body, and spiritually.

I was also taught that one cannot treat one with Reiki without the persons permission, and even if one does not receive oral permission, one must ask, at least on a spiritual/soul level from the person, before utilizing a Reiki treatment.

I have also noticed that using Reiki has a tendancy to, BUBBLE UP" hidden things/situations/motives/circumstances etc...in order to be delt with, in the persons life.

Also,(Example): should one request a Reiki treatment for a relationship, one needs to be aware that a Reiki treatment cannot do any bad, but may move the relationship apart, as in a break up, as this is truly what is best. It's not like casting a spell to cause someone to fall in love with you etc...

I had a person actually think that I could help her acheive the task of getting her husband to do what she wanted. I had a time trying to explain to her that this is not going to get her husband to simply do as she wants, by over-riding his free will, and give in to her will.
Anyone who thinks Reiki will do anything bad, is not using Reiki. They are using, something else, and they are intending something else, other than what they are stating. If a person receiving Reiki needs something more, the Reiki will "BUBBLE" this up, as to become apparent to all. If he/she needs a change in diet, or a better doctor, or simply needs to take a break now and then. The Reiki will make that apparent.

If another treatment would better the persons health in a much quicker way, the Reiki session will make this apparent.

I have found using Reiki with the intention of finding what is best for the person, or all involved has much greater value than what at first meets the eye.

It was also explained to me that, for example, healing a nerve will at first cause more pain, due to the nerve being revitalized, and the pain will be worse, before it gets better, as the nerve heals.
Just as one would not Reiki a broken bone to heal until the bone is set back in it's proper position, as healing would occur crooked. Get my point?

One should go about educating oneself as to what is happening in the ill persons body when enacting a healing on the disease, and also educate oneself on a spiritual level of illnesses to help to understand what is, and has been going on in this persons life, spiritually. This brings about a much better healing experience.

admittedly I got into reiki half-assed. I was so in aw of the mystic aspects of it, I wasn't grounded at all. I was young, impressionable and thought of how amazing reiki was and how I would love to heal people. I never could feel the energy in me. I guess my body was smart enough to not let the energy in?

My thing with reiki is, you don't know where this healing energy is coming from. Most will say that it's universal life force energy, it comes from the universe, or God but who really knows for sure?
I will only put my faith in love. I'm glad I cut my binds to reiki and yoga.

I choose love, also. I'm glad I have Reiki/universal energy/universal love, available to me. I am so happy and glad to have a bond with this source, to utilize.

It was through LOA that this path was opened up to me, and has served me so well.

Thumbs up Reiki is one of the best tools I've found for personal growth and development

Steve has briefly mentioned reiki in a few of his posts:

http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...do-it-seminar/
http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...-giving-up-tv/
http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/200...of-attraction/

I would love to read more of Steve's thoughts on reiki.

My first experience of reiki was about 2 years ago. It was a very profound introduction and proved to be a pivotal turning point in my life. I was doing some backpacking around Thailand and ended up in a restaurant in which the owner, Jordan, an "old" Tibetan man, had reiki on the menu! I had a nice meal and left but something about him played on my mind and I ended up coming back the next day to request a reiki session.

The intensity of the experiences I had during the session took me by surprise. I didn't have any major expectations nor did I know much about reiki. During the session I could clearly feel what I now perceive as reiki pouring into me from his hands.. it was a strange sensation, like a a white-hot heat but deeply internal as opposed to on the surface of my skin. I saw colours, particularly purple, in my minds eye as he worked on different parts of my body. Sometimes he spoke and guiding me to think or visualise something .. he seemed to be aware of what I was thinking and would say "yes, yes, that's it" when I got it right or clarify what he was asking if he didn't feel I was getting it. Other times he did some toning.

The whole reiki experience was incredibly releasing and cleansing. I remember crying during some of it. Afterwards I felt massive expansion in my chest as if it had tripled in depth.. like some weight I didn't even know I was carrying had dissolved. This feeling stayed with me for weeks before dissipating, and I think this dissipation was simply me getting used to feeling that way.

At the end of the session he told me there was a book I should read, called "The Power of Now". I've since read it (about 6 times!) and bought numerous copies as gifts for other people. It is an amazingly transformative book and I highly recommend it.

Last year I got my first reiki attunement. This was a beautiful experience (loving and peaceful) but not as intense as my initial experience. During the attunement Jordan appeared to my minds eye in the floating in blackness in the lotus position. This I found particularly strange as nothing had ever come into my mind like that before.. the "vision" of him came from no where and had a quality to it I'd never experienced before.

There is no doubt in my mind as to the power of energy work like reiki. I can't claim to understand it but my truth comes from knowing and having experienced it. I'm deeply grateful for these experiences I've had and the path they facilitated me going down. When I look back over the last 2 years and the personal growth I've experienced.. wow! For me, reiki has been the most profound catalyst for personal development.

I'm not sure where hado energy comes from, or reiki's for that matter. They may very well tap into the same energy source, but you still don't know what it's tapping into which is why I personally don't tap into either. There's so many different healing energy systems, I just question what exactly are they channeling? Whos or what's energy? Is all healing energy being channeled from the same source? I really don't know.

I choose to use my own energy to heal. I will focus on expanding my heart chakra and letting love shine out of it. Then I will focus on my heart's love streaming down my arms into my palms and putting it on an area of my body that hurts. It seems to be working for me.

Hi RallyMcnally,
Sounds like you've found a way to let it in, and through you. You've just accuratley discribed Reiki, and you've found your own perfect method of tapping into the source. WONDERFUL! Now, do you want to name it anything?

From reading a few Reiki forums, I've noticed that a lot of folks do have weirdly adverse reactions to it. I'm not quite sure why this is, and wouldn't presume to suggest why. However, for many people there is nothing wrong with it. I think of it as a more energy efficient way of doing energy healing. Most energy healers use their internal reservoirs of energy, whereas those attuned to Reiki can draw energy from around them, which they can both send towards the person being healed and benefit from themselves.

As far as yoga, I've only heard about adverse spriritual reactions to kundalini. What were your exerpeinces?

I asked my Reiki teacher what her thoughts were, and she had a really interesting answer. Here's what she wrote:

Quote:
I have only had two cases in which people had "bad reactions" to Reiki. In both cases, the people were convinced that every problem in their life stemmed from being attacked by demons or black magic. In both cases, the Reiki completely removed the external problem, and in both cases, I received panicked phone calls from the recipients about 48 hours later begging me to put the curse, demons or black magic back on and to remove the Reiki. (You can remove a Reiki treatment or healing attunement using the distant healing symbol and going back to when you sent it, effectively "unsending" it.) Both people freaked out when they realized that freedom required action, and like the beggars Usui treated, they found it easier to return to being enslaved. (It's equivalent to the Biblical analogy Jesus uses when he talks about the need to fill a cleaned house so that 7 more demons don't fill it up again.) These people did not describe it as such but rather that "things got much better and freer initially and then all hell broke loose," but it was clear from finding out what "all hell broke loose" meant that it was an issue of responsibility that they did not wish to embrace, and the refusal of which invited in all kinds of struggles and emotions.

This is now a red-flag for me, and I require people who want Reiki for curses, a magic cure, removal of or protection from black magic, or protection from demons to have a coaching session to discuss the energetics of these things and the responsibility we each hold for whatever "happens" to us. If they are unwilling to accept any responsibility for events in their lives, then I do not offer Reiki to them at that time. I recommend counseling or offer coaching sessions in preparation for the energy work.

I hope this answers some of your questions. There are, I'm sure, other instances in which people might say Reiki feels "too intense" or where something is less pleasant and not entirely relaxing. In all the cases, though, there is a tension between the healing being requested and the healing they are willing to accept. This is the reason for practicing unconditional compassion, non-judgment and non-attachment any time one offers Reiki, as well as for listening and remaining highly present during a Reiki treatment. It's not about forcing anything on anyone.

I've just noticed Steve's about section on his blog and he describes himself as
Quote:
Steve Pavlina is a blue-eyed, colorblind, left-handed, well educated, vegan, lucid dreaming, purpose driven, happily jobless, reality manipulating, meditation practicing, Reiki healing, risk taking, goal seeking, problem solving, early rising, passive income generating, highly motivated, energetic, disciplined, persistent, optimistic, fearless, and proactive... writer, speaker, blogger, podcaster, computer programmer, game designer, entrepreneur, husband, father, and archetypal Aries.
aha! I'd love to hear more about Steve's thoughts on reiki.

This is a fascinating subject. My own experience with Reiki triggered a kind of emotional release inside myself. I also discovered new ways to relax.

I offer this article by Jessica Miller which may surprise you!
Reiki Helps Heal Cervical Dysplasia

Why Reiki and not Leiki?

When Japanese people pronounce “Reiki”, they say “Leiki.” If Reiki is from Japan, why do they pronounce it with an "L"? It is not just the word Reiki. If you look at a map of Japan, many of the place names have ‘R’s in them also, but the pronounce these names with an "L". So, why do the Japanese pronounce the "R" like an "L"?

The answer appears to go back to the Portuguese Jesuits of the 1540’s. The Portuguese were the first Westerners to try to trade with the Japanese and convert them to Christianity. To do this they had to learn the language. They were the first to create a dictionary of how to pronounce words in Japanese using a Western alphabet.

The Portuguese use more of a rolling R than we do. To the Portuguese, what sounds like an “L”to us, sounded like a Portuguese “R”. I once had a student who could make both sounds and they really are quite similar. Try the word earl; with a rolling r. Notice how similar the sounds are to make. Even though this dictionary was not widely circulated, it started the tradition. So when Japanese place names were translated into a western alphabet, the ‘r’ was used, and we have Reiki rather than Leiki.
