 |  The "Greater Whole" as a conscious entity
Can the "greater whole" of humanity be described as having a collective mind? By this, I mean literal conscious states. What constitutes a mind? Is it the ability to function a certain way, or is it something more? If a computer was able to fully simulate human language, could it be said to understand that language? Does the computer have cognitive states? Can the greater whole be described as being in pain without individuals within it actually being in pain...e.g. the neurons of our brains don't individually feel pain, but collectively they form our mind (somehow) and the greater whole that is you experiences a state of pain.. |

Are you reading my mind? Today, I've given this much thought in relation to the current worldwide financial crisis. I'm unemployed and am surprised that I'm not freaked by the current situation. I'm aware others are losing their homes and are stressed, I feel for them, yet I feel peaceful.  It seems the collective consciousness has created this situation and I've been wondering why and what we all have to learn and heal from this situation. |
