Humans and populations have energy patterns, that are displayed as archetypes. Astrology also gives names to these patterns, and across cultures, ancient, modern, and eastern and western, the same main archetypes are identified and shown. When a larger 'body' is formed, in a country or continent, certain regions of the body will differentiate to perform specific functions of the body, eg, thinking, nurturing, industry, growing, administration, innovation, etc, and each geographic city will generally have one of these as a main function for the whole. On each continent, each of the major cities of the world has a dominant function and archetype. What would each of them be? |

Thx for the descriptions. I live in Seattle and am essentially from Seattle and yeah, I'd say it's a practical and possibly methodical town. I'd also say that it's very open-minded, freedom-loving, adventurous, and balanced. The area offers a great balance of nature and metropolitan feel - water & mountains encapsulating a progressive, open-minded city.

Very interesting, Athena - would you be able to tell us how and where certain other regions / continents / states / countries / cities fit into the astrological pattern? For example, I'd like to know more about all the continents of America, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica, Europe - and specifically - Europe and Germany/Hamburg (my continent/country/city of birth), - Africa/South Africa/Johannesburg/Cape Town (where I have lived for more than 20 years), - Austria (where I live now, in Villach which is a small town), - Australia/New South Wales/Sydney (where my brother lives), - USA/California/San Francisco (where my sister lives) (OK, we have SF) Would you? Can you? I hope I am not asking too much. |

Killadelphia is Cancer, "protective, sensitive, nurturing"? huh? Well, they're sensitive, I guess. Sorry I'm still bitter about the Phillies winning the world series (Mets fan), but in all seriousness I don't think this this description fits Philadelphia too well. I better see it as a Taurus, though DC fits that it also fits Virgo. Denver is a smaller city so could be dropped from the list. Move the cancer to Seattle. I don't believe Gemini and the twin cities have anything in common other than the fact that they are twins. Minnesotans are not really known for being sociable. Though I suppose it fits the "curious/thinking" part. I think Atlanta might be a better fit. I'd toss Mpls/St Paul from the list and put a bigger city, Houston, as the Capricorn (vacated by Seattle). Hawaii could be a Pieces but I think if you are talking about major US cities it should be Miami. so here's my modified list (with beta cities in parenthesis): Aries - New York (St Louis) Taurus - Philadelphia (Cleveland) Gemini - Atlanta (Charlotte) Cancer - Seattle (San Diego) Leo - Los Angeles (Dallas) Virgo - DC/Baltimore (Denver) Libra - Chicago (Minneapolis) Scorpio - Las Vegas (???) Saggitarius - Boston (Pittsburgh) Capricorn - Houston (Detroit, used to be the other way around) Aquarius - San Francisco (Portland) Pisces - Miami (New Orleans) ok, so somebody who knows what they're talking about tell me why I'm wrong. BlueCrane: It seems that entire continents are not themselves differentiated yet, as they have so far in human history functioned mostly independently from one another. Currently, each continent is itself the 'body', and so the cities listed here function as the organs in each body, with specific energies and functions for the whole. It will be interesting to see if, with globalization, certain cities, countries, and even continents, may become integrated such that the entire world becomes the 'body', so there would be only one global capitol, one pioneering city, one major transit city, etc. for the whole world. == For the other continents-- Africa is largely undifferentiated, perhaps partly because of its economic status (fewer resources or blood flow, to allow for specific organs to differentiate). And Antartica seems not to carry a lot of functional energy. Australia may have differentiated cities, but I'm not entirely familiar with the country or the energy of its cities so I did not list them here. == For the countries of Europe, certain countries have a main energy, (eg Germany is very Taurus, France has Leo energy, Monaco has some Scorpio, etc) but I would not yet call them fully differentiated. I think with the EU formation, the countries will probably start to function more like states, and Europe will function more like a country, and will in the future have countries with a more specific, dominant energy. |

missing: those few that you suggested alternate cities-- here's why the original were listed: Philadelpia as Cancer-- in its energy including its name philos- Love, delphos- brother nicknames: "City of Brotherly Love","The City that Loves you Back", "Cradle of Liberty", "The Birthplace of America", "Philly" motto: "Let brotherly love endure" and the first botanical garden, pediatric hospital, art school, among others it has the most feminine and loving energy of the big cities in the US right now.. Love Park ![]() City Hall in the holidays ![]() === Taurus as DC- the capitol, the bureaucracy, and the slow, steady, bull ![]() == Twin Cities as Gemini- besides being twins, two cities differentiated but closely linked, also the traveler and communicator, including the major airport hub as its centerpiece == Capricorn as Seattle- economy has large part in building, airplanes, and computers, and same gray, earthy energy the other option was Silicon Valley, though its close to San Francisco, it also has similar energy, though Seattle is a little more differentiated ![]() == Hawaii as Pisces - pretty clear. Hawaii is archetypally the most mystical, dreamy, spiritual (and watery) place in the US. also see how the energy of each city attracts further of the same energy to it, including people, companies, industries, with matching energy. |

Hmm... so I can see Seattle as being a gray, earthy city - more so than the other signs. This is some interesting stuff. So from this framework, then, I can assume that if I can find the city that has the type of energy that corresponds to (or perhaps balances with) my own personal energy, then I should be much more personally and professionally successful, holding everything else equal. This appears to be the extension of feng-shui-like applications. I think you're on to something as we, as a body of humanity, continue to converge, we'll continue to differentiate and figure out where we fit in to the grand scheme of things as individuals comprising organizations and cities, but also on a grander scale as cities and countries comprising continents and the world. You might be on the verge of some real seminal work here. |

Thanks Athena - that makes sense. I am a Taurus myself and very conscious of that. But I also see myself very much as a citizen of this globe and my whole life reflects that. When I travel and stay in a certain place for longer, I pick up these energies ... it starts with a feeling of being either comfortable there or not, then familiarity and identification. As I grow as a person, these feelings change after a few years and when they are strong enough, prompt me to move away and find a new place; that's how I found Austria ... not wanting to return to Germany, the place of my birth. By the way, Johannesburg is very Aries like New York and London; Cape Town feels like a mixture of Aquarius and Pisces. Thanks. |

and as far as Gemini goes with the airport hub in Minneapolis, my choice for that sign (Atlanta) also has a major hub for Delta. In fact, Delta just merged with the major airline of Mpls, Northwest. Last edited by missing; 11-23-2008 at 02:19 PM. | |
