I had an interesting experience recently that i wd like to share with you. I had come accross a video on you tube attacking Oprah and accusing her of all sorts of satanic things like starting her own church and leading folk in mass trances. The person making the vid was referring to the one minute silent awareness Ekhart Tolle had invited students of the Webcast to join in at the beginning of each class! The content of the video annoyed me so much that I responded to it letting the person know that what Oprah was doing was all to the good and that encouraging silence for one minute was nothing to do with mass trances. Anyway we argued the bit to and fro for quite a while and I found all my anti born again christian venom spilling out on the page. Controlled rage though, nothing rude. However it turned out that the good christian I was hammering said a few things to me that got me thinking about my life. Suddenly I was wondering why on earth I was defending Oprah. What was I doing? Why was I being rude (ENOUGH) to someone I did not know on account of someone I do not know? The lovely thing though is that although I will never be a born again christian that person helped me . She just dropped a few simple insights about me on my lap which stopped me in my tracks and actually did me some good.Earlier in her e mails to me she was much less a christian than any christian would care to think of themselves as I am sure. I didnt mind her lambasting me though. Thought it was kind of funny. The reason I wanted to share this with you is that someone asked why anyone would feel the need to defend someone like Oprah whom they obviously dont really know. Its a strange one. For me it was because I didnt like seeing her so misunderstood by religous people and so blatantly condemned and misjudged ,but to get to the point... Although it might have been a stupid thing to get involved in in the first place, turns out I am glad that I did. A maniacal fundamentalist, as I would have perceived it, a right wing wasp, a person I would have no respect for at all turned out to be quite insightful and ultimately helpful to me. What appeared to be a silly desire to defend Oprah in the end helped me. in It let me meet the human being in the Fundementalist and allowed me to witness myself being helped by her.Sometimes then even irrational actions can be of benefit is what I am trying to say.I will never forget that person. Ever. A long story for a bit of nothing but it I wanted to share it with you. |
