Default Taoist Drop Meditation

This is from the Barefoot Doctor. I've been on his mailing list for a long time now and I've always found his emails to be both entertaining and informative. And this is a great meditation. Enjoy :

2 MINUTE GLOBAL MEDITATION


To help instigate a force-field of healing energy around the planet on an experimental basis, every day or night, depending on which time zone you're in, at 1403 GMT (1003 EST, 1503 BST), no matter what else you're doing, discreetly, internally perform the following moves, comprising the fabled 'Taoist Drop' meditation manoeuvre for two minutes in the company of me and people all round the world doing it with you:

Scan your body for areas in which your muscles are gripping on for no good reason and stop doing that. Relax everything.

Notice how you're resisting gravity and stop doing that too. Let your weight drop from your head, chest and upper abdomen, into your lower abdomen, lower back, hips and legs.

Using your mind rather than muscular force, lengthen your spinal column from your tailbone to the crown of your head, paying special attention to elongating the back of your neck, where energy otherwise tends to get stuck and let the lengthening of your spine be what holds you upright now, rather than relying on muscular force.

Slump and broaden your shoulders and allow your sit bones to settle into your seat, or if standing, settle yourself into the soles of your feet.

Check your breathing. If you notice you're holding or inhibiting your breath, stop doing that as well. Breathe freely, slowly, silently, smoothly and low down in your belly.

Soften your chest and release the muscular armouring there to enable your innate human warmth and love of life to flow freely, simultaneously thus making yourself available to receive the innate warmth and love of others.

Soften your face and smile with your eyes to lift your spirits and relax your cranium.

Draw the point from which you're witnessing moment-by-moment reality back out of your eyeballs and forebrain, into the centre of your brain, equidistant between your ears, just behind the roof of your mouth at the top of your upper brainstem. The Taoists call this your 'cavity of original spirit' - learning to witness reality from here is tantamount to experiencing life as an immortal spirit as opposed to being lost in the trance of the everyday. It also serves to remove you from the perpetual noise in your forebrain arising from the chattering of what the Taoists call your monkey mind, with its persistent running commentary about the way you're handling things and your chances of success or failure as a result. This leaves you feeling perfectly still, at the centre of things and fully in command, rather than feeling like a victim of circumstances and comprises the nub of all Taoist practices for health, longevity, enlightenment, inner peace and mastery of the material plane.

That's the Taoist Drop. Practice it with eyes closed save for a fine slit of light to familiarise yourself with it and in no time at all, you'll be able to practice it to full advantage with eyes open all the time as your basic default position and thus be in a state of peace and clarity even in the midst of the hustle and bustle of daily life.

If you wish to take it further, maintain all the above, while simultaneously visualising the following, comprising a mediation called 'Scooping the Loop'.

As you inhale, visualise the breath rising in a fine stream up the rear of your spine from your tailbone to the crown of your head. As you exhale, visualise the breath descending in a fine stream down behind your face and along the front of your spine to the perineum between your legs and back into your tailbone, thus forming a loop.

As the breath rises up the rear on inhalation, imagine it imbued with the power to strengthen, revitalise and rejuvenate you and make you steadfast. As the breath drops down the front, imagine it imbued with the power to purify, cleanse and refine you and fill you with grace and compassion.

Scoop the loop a minimum of three times, all the while maintaining your vantage point in centre brain, relaxing, sinking and breathing freely as above.

When you've done, whether you just did the basic Drop or went on to scoop the loop, be aware of everyone who's been doing it with you here - me, along with thousands, hundreds of thousands, possibly sometimes millions - and tune trans-personally into the innermost presence within each. Breathe it in and breathe it out. Feel your connection in love with everyone, then on behalf of us all, say, 'bring on the new!' and carry on as you were.

1403 GMT was chosen after consulting with site members in various time zones, as the time pretty much everyone would most easily be able to make - morning in America, afternoon in Europe, night time in the Far East, Australia and New Zealand.

However, should you find it impossible, do the Drop whenever you remember and you'll still be plugging into the group energy, synergistically accruing in the ether regardless, as centre-brain awareness transcends both time and space in any case.

Because this is experimental, the results are unpredictable, however so far people report an increase of psychic abilities, a sensation of feeling connected rather than isolated and a deep experience of being rejuvenated. It is my belief that over time, as the number of participants and acuity of practice increase, it will generate an envelope of healing, miracle-producing, happy chi all around the planet. I have no idea what effect this will produce, however, though I can't see a downside - it's calming, centring, refreshing, restoring, inspiring and is good for your physical health.
