Default Meditation: What's this "Energy" thing about?

I've started going to a Zen sangha recently (actually, just yesterday), and someone I meditated next to today told me I had "good energy." I've heard comments about good/bad "energy" a couple times from other meditators in the past, too. I don't see myself trying to get more into it, trying to "maintain a good energy" or anything. But I guess I'm just curious.

So what is this energy? Is it some "feeling beyond the mind" phenomenon, or something else?

I think it means you are pure in heart. Letting your true Nature shine through you without having your Mind taking total "control".
An easy natural way of being, as it should be for everyone.

It can mean a lot of things, it all depends on what the person really meant.

Yes I would think that it can mean anything. You should check with the person who said it.

'You have good energy' - probably means that your energy is positive, the person gets positive vibes from you.

It could also mean your energy body is in good health - which is basically saying the same thing. If you're a positive person mentally, emotionally, spiritually, you'll be in good health.

Everything in this world is made of energy including us. Energy gives off vibrations that can be sensed by animals and other people who are sensitive and have awareness. Our aura is actually the energy field which surrounds our body. My article Energy Vibrations explains the concept at Energy Vibrations | Ocean Of Perspectives

In a thread I said this:
I often say that the "intuitive realm" I seem to be able to intuitively read feels like it has no concept of space and time (i.e. distance and "the decay of time" don't apply). Something may "look" like it's further away in the physical realm, but it "feels" as if it's in the same location as everything else.

It really makes me wonder whether physical reality is more of an illusion than we know, or rather, a very elaborate projection of energy. I'm not sure what that energy is; it's super-hard to understand the concept of non-space, just like concept of the non-physical being everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
- Can psychics read people without permission? (Blog)
And in another thread, I talk about energy in more detail than I've seen anybody talk about it (at least, in non-book form).

I'd try a (non-invasive) long-distance energy read on you to figure out what the guy was probably referring to, but right now my body is a bit rundown so I don't want to drain it further by doing a long-distance read.

They could have been picking up on the impressions they got from the energy you were giving off. It could have been your intentions, aspects of your personality, or the strength of your life force.

Haven't replied to this thread in a while, but I just wanted to thank you for your replies.

Next time I see that person at the sangha again, I'll ask. Maybe I should have thought of that one...

Bruce, that energy reading sounds interesting. Is there anything I need to do in particular for this?

I personally don't believe in auras or anything like that. However, I do believe that people give off uncountable subtle hints about who they are, and that this is interpreted as "energy" by some. It could be posture, clothing, facial expressions, tone of voice, the way people walk, even the way they smell (people give off chemical signals just like all mammals, we are just less consciously aware of them). All of this adds up to give what is likely a moderately accurate model of what a person is like, both in general and at the moment. Individuals that can pick this up may just be very in tune with their senses where people are concerned. At least that's my rational work-around until science discovers aural emissions

I believe he was talking about vibrational energy. For example every human gives off some sort of energy. It is their natural state of being (or consciousness, whatever you prefer to call it) Things like fear and anger give off negative energy and things like love and peace give off positive energy. If your looking for proof just look at what happens to a dog when you come at them with excited energy .

they were probably talking about your vibe....You have a good vibe...for example when you sit next to someone somewhere you can(at least me) usually tell if they are a positive person to negative person such as the way they hold themselves and talk..a good vibe would be someone that would be humble, easy to connect with, smiling, nice, peaceful...while a bad vibe would someone angry, hateful, and full of pride..pretty much Good vibe =less ego(fearless) Bad vibe=more ego(fearful)
