Sex and Spirituality

This note was inspired by a discussion I had last week in this community. Some seem to have the notion that all thoughts are tainted by the ego, and thus should be distrusted alltogether. I believe the ego can conquered mentally. I discovered the ego's workings when I struggled with sexual fantasies. I am free of them now. To quote Frank Sinatra "If I can make it there, I can make it anywhere".

Are you saying that anytime you are having sex or thinking about sex,thats the work of the ego? I dont think that is true at all,sexual fantasies and urges are natural,we were made this way,even animals were made this way. I dont think it has anything to do with the ego.

I would doubt that animals have sexual fantasies. I do and yes I suppose I am an animal so you might be right. Its always great when your own bright ides come back immediately and slap you in the face. Some people have big trouble though with their sexual imaginings. My ego had major trouble with mine. The day I REALISED that it was my ego that point blank refused to tolerate my libido has got to be one of the biggest aha moments of my life. The unchecked ego can be so very devious, so righteous, so uptight cant it? But its all part of the collective ego is it not.Every religion poo poos sex.Societies poo poo it too and yet everybody is "stuck" with one (a sex drive that is.)We have developed this idea that we are somehow rebelling against God, rules, conformity if we indulge these primitive (and downright filthy)instincts not realising it is egoic in the extreme to poo poo such a miraculous form of expression. Of course the Collective Ego cant bear to think that humans are animals....Sex is gooood.Fantasies of their nature are supposed to be fantastic. However, people should have a choice . It might be a good thing to have a break or to put them in check if they are upsetting you and it has been known for people to live more happily in fantasy land than in LIFE, so in some circumstances maybe best to leave well alone. We all need to do what we all need to do.Sexuality is a powerful force and people have to come to terms with it each in their own way. All the best with your decision to abstain, but be creative with the energy. Paint, write, dance, sing,BE AWARE.lots of luck.

One can have a sexual drive, act on it, yet not indulge in fantasies about sex.

It is a spiritual illusion that refraining from sex and denying our natural instincts will some how bring us closer to god. No thanks

Just to clarify, spirituality and sex can go hand in hand. If you have good sex with somebody you care for, this physical union "blows your mind", i.e. the ego will not be present. It is the imagination instead that can be the ego's workshop. Lastly, I would think men struggle more with these issues than women.
