Default Happiness

I'm wondering how many people there are who are interested in a course in engineering happiness in their own lives.

It's a straw poll, nothing expected in the way of commitment. I'm working on the idea of six weekly engagements at my own centre in the north of England.

I'd appreciate any feedback, suggestions or questions anyone might have as I believe it is extremely useful to engage in work of this nature and that the opportunities to do so are all too few without becoming involved in some form of circus.

Thanks in advance for anything that anyone might be inclined to pitch in with.

I'd be very interested. I've been reading a book called Addicted to Unhappiness. It speaks of choosing unhappiness as your natural state because your parents seemed to desire unhappiness for you as a child. This speaks to me. Joy was almost frightening to my mother. She could deal with grief, sadness, pain, unhappiness -- those were her constant companions. Real joy, that she didn't understand, and didn't really want to see.

I don't know how to entirely undo my leanings to unhappiness. It seems like I can find it if even if it isn't there.

Through force of will I consistently try to choose happiness; but it seems like just that, a constant requirement that I 'will' it into being, rather than just allowing happiness to be my natural state.

Don't get me wrong; my friends would call me a happy kind of person. But it feels like there is a constant monkey on my back that needs tending.

So, count me in. Except, I live in the US, and I don't think I could attend in person. Blessings from Belle,

Default I'm not in the north of England

Hi Lee,

Like me others may not have responded because we are not in the north of England.

Perhaps too you need to say how your course would be different - there are a truck load of courses on this already.

Count me in, Lee but lets know what sort of a course youre thinking of. I am generally a happy chappy but there are times .... Anything to help on how to work through the less than happy times would be good for me. Keep us posted. Thanks.
