For me, it seems that everything humans do is making fools of ourselves. I think that we should work to improve mankind in all senses, but nobody cares. It's like everybody is numb and dreaming all the time. People works just because they are supposed to and to get their basic needs fullfiled. For example my job is software developer, other people asks me to code apps, I code them, I get paid for that, exchange my money for stuff and that's it. It's everything the world has to offer? There's nothing better out there? I don't like it, it's empty, void, depressing, boring... |

It's not them. It's you! 100% responsibility, baby. It's where the action is. | |

Some of what you wrote reminded me of Steve's post, 10 Reasons You Should Never Get a Job. he's less than gentle in that post, so ego beware. I've observed this fact ever since I was a child. It is part of the reason I changed my major in college from computer science to music performance. In about 50 years, what would you like to look back and see yourself accomplishing? Forget practicality right now, just in the ideal universe. Are you more concerned with making money and being successful, or with making some lasting impression? From your post, I'm assuming the latter. What, then, is the best way you can do this? What are your talents? Or, if you can't think of any talent besides programming, how can you apply this to be in service to others, or otherwise make a difference as you seem to want to do? I think that in considering this, it is important to remember the impermanence of most things in our world. Unfortunately, it is likely that few if any of these programs you write for your job are going to have any semblance of permanence. I think you'll find a lot of similarities if you read through Steve's blog and articles, since he was once a programmer as well. |

I think we live in a bifurcated world: If you see your interactions with other people and your job as an exchange of commodities, money and services, that's how the world is likely to treat you. If, instead, you try to see more in people and your job, new creative avenues and relationships are likely to open up. On a very different subject, doesn't the concept Doppelgaenger imply a somewhat stealth existence? Perhaps you could start the process with a new name; what do you think? Zeitgeist |
