It's the title of a chapter in Tolle's "The Power of Now". (Sub-chapter of super-chapter eight). I was just looking at the contents table on a website and I haven't read the book myself (yet) but this was intriguing, not to say button-pushing. Anybody can explain me why I am worse (than women)? |

I think men are just more identified with their egos generally, probably due to social structures. Men have traditionally been assessed (and assess themselves) based on external achievements and social status. Egoic behavior like dominating and showing up others is encouraged. But yes, Tolle does not dwell on this; it doesn't seem too important.

Since it can be generally true that women are conditioned to be feelers more than men - that makes it generally easier for women to going into feeling states that are more like awareness and not like thinking. This is in general too. You can easily find a woman that thinks a lot, that took on thinking to compete like most guys do and also find guys that would be considered a feeler compared to the thinking type woman. It's part of ego-land this comparison. In other words, if it pushes your button to think some type of person can be closer to enlightenment - listen to that in terms of why that pushes a button. It pushes the button of being competitive and beliefs of needing to be better than someone else. That is part of what to bypass on the path to enlightenment. |

i agree with what wolfgang said empathising v's systemising left brain v's right brain meditation activates the left side of the brain and quietens activity in the right hand side of the brain. enlightenment is left brain functioning. it is of course a generalisation |

Very good response wolfgang. Plato, I think you got you left's and right's mixed up. No worries though. The woman in the video below had a very conscious experience between her own left and right brain function while she was having a stroke. It's one of the most moving and interesting 18 minute personal stories you will hear in long time. Well worth watching. http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/229 |

I think enlightenment, emotion, imagination is a right brain thing - logic, rules, and structure is in the left side. | |
