| Meditation, Yoga & Pranayama are great actitivites to explore & improve yourself. But what about climbing a montain, knowing you might fall if you don't keep focused & strong? We have abandoned these direct challanges of survival & we no longer know what it's like! Just try climb a tree to see how you react to it. Things like running, going to a gym & yoga isn't the most fun things to do to get your exercise! Though yoga is a much more perfected & balanced method. I just want you to be aware of that. I want you to come-up with other fun & dangerous exercises! (your mind is probably habitually reacting to the word "danger" (even though you might be suppressing it) as something stupid or insane to do that might kill you, so I want you to think of it as a direct challange (in constrast to indirect: solving theoretical problems that spring up from a main-problem), or an adrenaline-pumping challanges). In direct challanges the goal is clear: you get clear feedback from external stimuli. Computer games can help with this, & have an incredible potential that noone have even began to harness yet. Here are my suggestions: -Walking in a forest at night If you accept the challange to be to walk a certain route, the light in the end will fuel you easier (instead of you pressuring yourself to walk longer). -Camping by yourself in a haunting place, like in a haunted house. It makes dawn into such a wondeful moment, & will give you real tangible feedback of the hurt you negative thoughts are making upon you! -Jumping from rocks or cliffs (it's just quite fun how you are almost unable to supress the subconscious fear of jumping; but not really a good challange, just an experiment) Jokes: -Swimming with sharks -Running across a minefield How whould people have the time to cut themselved & be depressed if they did this!? I have had quite deep depression myself & I know it's the worst thing & I know what it is & why it is, & this is one of my practical solutions. Last edited by gnitratser : 03-15-2008 at 05:37 PM. |

| I agree that some people who are mentally and emotionally in less than ideal states do have too much time to dwell on their misery. Sometimes it's hard to tell which caused which. Too much time makes you bummy or being bummy makes you just want to sit on your sofa and wallow. Little of both, I think. I'm just not a big fan of the thrill seeker's mentality. Feels to me that there is a huge karmic lesson that needs to be addressed in people that constantly seek that kind of lifestyle. Ego-tripping, it's-all-about-me kind of thing. What's more is that usually other innocent people have to get involved to save some of the seekers from their own stupidity and that is as good as literally threatening someone else's life, at least to me. The idea of getting off your duff and experiencing actual life is not a bad concept, though. Rather than the preferred virtual life some people are enamored with lately. I think rather than assuming that the abandonment of survival-oriented experiences is a bad thing, think of it as another aspect of evolution. From the time we have existed, we have been striving as a species to take small and large steps to move AWAY from having to experience pure survival-type experiences. Not moving toward them just for the fun of it. Jennifer Last edited by Jennihul : 03-18-2008 at 06:11 PM. |
