Default How do I get in touch with my intuition?

I want more intuitive direction. I've tried meditating and "quieting my mind" but I just get antsy and can't focus on my breathing and my mind will race with thoughts.

Any other ways to get in touch with my high self/intuition?

Thanks!!

in my personal experience traveling abroad has been the best way to get in touch with my inner direction, buy a ticket to any third world country (i say that because cultures far different to our own affect us much more greatly, plus its cheaper!) being in an environment so different to your own is the best way to challenge your comfort zone, break bad habits and learn about yourself especially when you experience the "counter culture shock" of returning to your native soil

if you have no plans, just a vague sense of where you want to end up, and drift from place to place i can guarantee you you will end up in a flow state and tune your intuition as you enjoy the serendipitous vicissitudes of travel

Martin, its the other way around- your intuition will find you when you need it. The problem is, we block our awareness of our intuition a lot of the time by living automatically, by thinking we know-it-all, or by self doubts and negative self concepts. Going new places, trying new activities, learning new skills, and new ideas, are all mind-opening activities that will, with an open mind, help growth and awakening. Many have said we are Divinity in hiding, sleeping in human form. If its hard to buy this idea, but it sounds good, keep telling yourself maybe it IS true! Keep an open mind. Your intuition will come through!
Namaste...Sammy

Unfortunately if you live anywhere close to or in a city, you'll never get rid of the "racing" thoughts.

Reason is Pollution run amok. (With a capitol P.)

The best you could do, other then moving, is buy a HEPA filter, clean it every day, (maybe more depending on how much pollution you live in.)

Then, your brain syntax activity quickly goes back to normal and you'll make "progress".......which is another false statement, cause, try and see you're already there.

Think about it.

When you were born, you had it.

You're mind is running amok because it is trying to use meditation for gaining something. It is what wants to gain intuitive perception, and it is the part that wants that so that it doesn't need to think anymore. It is a bit counter-intuitive, but it is the ego that wants to be free of the ego, because desire arises from the self.

What you can do is just forget about trying to be more intuitive, and instead look at you self and your desires. Just sit down and listen to your mind for every time it wants something. Every time you find that "you" want something, simply think "my ego wants this/that/the other." Don't attempt to not want it, because that is another desire. "My ego wants to not want this/that/the other." It's not strictly meditation, but it does let you know what shenanigans your ego is up to :-D

Wha?

Not my experience, by a long shot.

Hey, Martin, if you're a reader, and you're in the US, I've got a book I can pass along to you. Just PM me your address if you'd like it.

Glad to hear your cities leaders are doing something about Pollution where you live, Carenkh.

But what I said about the mitigating factors of breathing in Pollution and our bodies is still a factor to reckon with in other cities....wouldn't you agree ?

My city's not doing so much about pollution... but the pollution hasn't kept me from experiencing a calm mind. My mind is not racing, and I live in a city. That's what I meant. So, I'd disagree.

Martin, a number of factors may be involved in why you are not succeeding in meditation. Just as you would not run a 100 metre race right after eating a heavy meal, you should prepare yourself beforehand, mentally and physically, and check that the location is quiet and comfortable.

It may even be down to personality – if you are very active and extrovert, it just may not be the right thing for you at this time. Perhaps another activity may be more suitable, such as yoga, walking or playing a sport.

Personally, I find walking alone and reciting prayers, chants or positive statements very beneficial – the restless, active part of the mind is ‘harnessed’ in focusing on the prayers, allowing the deeper aspects of oneself to bubble up to the surface of one's perception and become more manifest.

I have to agree that meditation is one of the best ways to get in touch with your intuition.

Think of intuition as your 'inner-tutor' - that invisible 'guide' that's always with you. Having a quiet mind is the key to listening and hearing this inner guidance. if prayer is you talking to God, then intuition is God talking to you.

You have to learn to quiet your mind since most of us constantly have something going on and being truly quiet is something that most people simply can't do anymore.

Maybe you want to take 15 minutes before sleep where you just get quiet and still your mind - clear all distractions and just be
