Default Is this disturbing to you or just another way of looking at things?

Here is a link that was sent to me by a 'progressive' thinking person:

"Doomsday Seed Vault" in the Arctic

Take a look at it and tell me if this is what one would consider evil or if it is a possibly good thing.

Given the fact that Bill Gates is supposedly the richest man in the world and he has built a global empire that most people are dependent upon, could he get into the food supply business?

A man only has power if you give it to him. France has already scrapped the use of Microsoft for Linux. But then again, everyone needs food.

Should we all pack up and move to Norway?

I'm not sure about a hidden agenda but anyone who has opposed the recent strains of GMO crops knows that they almost invariably end up cross- pollinating with neighboring fields, creating their franken-spawn even where farmers have refused to intentionally use them. Then the GMO companies force those farmers to pay for the patent infringement.

So to me a seed bank safe from this is a good thing.

When the Earth stops spinning and the poles shift in four years, we may be glad this seed bank exists.

I think the point is that a seed bank funded by GMO companies is hardly safe from that kind of thing. I'm not saying I think this will happen, but, since we already know that the GMO companies enjoy making people who don't want to use their seeds pay them anyway, imagine a world where something wipes out a lot of diversity, and said companies bring their products out of seed banks and make EVERYONE pay for it or starve. These people are not keeping a seed bank for altruistic reasons; if they were, they would be quite different companies and exhibit quite different behaviors.

Default What can be done and by whom?

This seems like a rather simplistic question for such a complex problem, but the reason why I posted the question here is that I am wondering if a) it is as sinister as the original article author claims the situation is and b) if so, is there anything that can be done short of the return (or the appearance) of a Saviour. I'm not being flip. Does humankind have enough spiritual development to save itself? If it does, then how? With a whole lot of praying and meditating?
And if all this is an exaggeration then why in the world is the Monopolizer himself all the way up there in the middle of nowhere? Because the seeds would be difficult for most to get to or is it a climate thing?
