Do you know songs about spirituality? In the days(in last year) which i was concentrating on "Oneness" i heard a song on the radio at the car with my mother while waiting for my father to come back to car, some lyrics(they were in my language) of it was: "What are hidden in the past?Who am I?Who am I?I am One!One!" After hearing the lyrics,my mother repeated "I am One! One!" hehe, but i am sure she was knowing nothing about what the lyrics truly mean Last edited by Jack; 02-05-2008 at 08:04 PM. |

I don't know what your dear mumma was listening to but she sure got the right message. I can't listen to Angelique Kidjo sing "We Are One" without getting all goosebumpy. Oh yea, let's not forget "I Know what Love is" by Don White |

Songs marked with an asterisk are not your typical "spiritual" song. That is, they aren't exactly happy and/or positive, but the subject matter deals with spiritual matters nonetheless. Also, keep in mind that my definition of what is spiritual might be a bit broad, so the connection might not be there when you first hear the lyrics to some of these songs. Audioslave - Like a Stone* (I think) Coldplay - Clocks Coldplay - A Whisper Evanescence - Tourniquet* Flyleaf - Red Sam Flyleaf - I'm So Sick* Gomez - See the World Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood (Well, spirituality or drugs...or both...I'm not sure, Gorillaz is a weird band) Hoobastank - Crawling in the Dark* Hyde - Season's Call (Yeah, he's a Japanese singer, but I'm pulling these straight out of my music files, so I'm just listing all that apply. Spirituality has no native tongue, after all Do as Infinity - Fukai Mori Massive Attack - Teardrop Lacuna Coil - Swamped Lostprophets - Last Train Home* Nujabes feat. Cyne - Feather Nujabes feat. Shing02 - Luv Sic, Parts 1-3 (Well, it's a love song, really, but there's a very strong spiritual undertone to it. It's not a typical love long) Origa - Inner Universe Origa - Rise Queen - Innuendo* Queen feat. David Bowie - Under Pressure Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah (Actually a Leonard Cohen cover, but I like Wainwright's version better Seether - Rise Above This (I think) Steve Conte - Living Inside the Shell Stylophonic - Soul Reply Sublime - What I Got Switchfoot - Meant to Live System of a Down - Arials* Willy Wonka - Pure Imagination The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony* ...okay, so I got a bit carried away. Sorry about that. Last edited by Gukkor; 07-06-2008 at 08:53 PM. |

I can recommend the band "Absurd Minds", almost all their songs are spiritual. Some excerpts: "There`s only the source, dark in itself, making everything shine. When all names and forms have been given up the real is with you. Break the bonds of memory and self-identification and the shell will break by itself. All you need is you." "The dreaming of the world takes many forms, because the body seeks in many ways to prove - it is real. The searching for the truth takes many forms, because the body feels in many ways this world is not real." |

Here is a verse from Styx revealing the illusion of the ego Welcome to the grand illusion Come on in and see whats happening Pay the price, get your tickets for the show The stage is set, the band starts playing Suddenly your heart is pounding Wishing secretly you were a star. Here is one of my favorites (lyrics Anderson/music Vangelis) Sounds like a signal from you Bring me to meet your sound And I will bring you to my heart Love like a signal you call Touching my body my soul Bring to me, you to meet me here Home be the temple of your heart Home be the body of your love Just like Holy water to my lips Yes I do know how I survive Yes I do know why I'm alive To love and be with you Day by day by day by day Time, time again, it is said We will hear, we will see See it all-in his wisdom-hear His truth will abound the land This truth will abound the land This State of independence shall be This State of independence shall be |

From the nest we descend in a mist, all like birds on thin ice From the kingdoms of childhood we dream on and turn to the wise And the code that was written in blood & flesh in an ancient time From the kingdom of heaven the ships of dreams were sent to enlighten YOU. The Flower Kings - Serious Dreamers All their lyrics are spiritual, but I think these are pretty epic. Last edited by Elrond; 07-28-2008 at 11:45 PM. |

the thing with the Beatles is that sometimes the lyrics are easy to understand and sometimes they need to be decoded. Two examples, first is easy, second is not. Recorded in India, with George Harrison and Indian musicians, and with special Indian smells in the studio. Within You Without You-The Beatles 1967 (song of George Harrison) original version YouTube - Within You, Without You love remix and videoclip in 2008, with sounds of Tomorrow Never Knows (another quite spiritual one with The Beatles creating techno music in 1966!) YouTube - Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows We were talking about the space between us all and people who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion never glimpse the truth then it's far too late when they pass away We were talking about the love we all could share When we find it to try our best to hold it there with our love, with our love we could save the world if they only knew Try to realize it's all within yourself no one else can make you change And to see you're really only very small and life flows on within you and without you We were talking about the love that's gone so cold and the people who gain the world and lose their soul They don't know, they can't see Are you one of them When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find peace of mind is waiting there And the time will come when you see we're all one and life flows on within you and without you Last edited by songwriter; 07-29-2008 at 01:42 PM. |

here comes the difficult one I am the Walrus, inspired in Lewis Carrol poem The Walrus is one character that chooses to be the one "who will claim against kings", that was Lennon choosed to do from 1967 on. Claiming against anything wrong and the status quo. The Carpenter is other character of the poem, that happens to be the conceiver of the ideas of the Walrus but doesn't want to like the claiming Walrus role, that's Paul McCartney. I am the walrus-The Beatles (song of John Lennon) YouTube - The Beatles - I am the Walrus (High Quality) I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together (no explanation for these lines, in this board I think) See how they run like pigs from a gun see how they fly (people being sheep) I'm crying (and that's sad) (etc. I don't know how to decode the rest, But I've saw it made by English native speakers.) Sitting on a cornflake Waiting for the van to come Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday Man you've been a naughty boy you let your face grow long I am the eggman they are the eggmen I am the walrus Goo goo g' joob Mr. city policeman sitting pretty little policemen in a row See how they fly like Lucy in the sky See how they run I'm crying I'm crying, I'm crying Yellow matter custard Dripping from a dead dog's eye Crabalocker fishwife Pornographic priestess Boy, you've been a naughty girl you let your knickers down I am the eggman They are the eggmen I am the walrus Goo goo g' joob Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun If the sun don't come you get a tan from standing in the English rain I am the eggman They are the eggmen I am the walrus Goo goo g' joob Expert, texpert choking smokers don't you think the joker laughs at you See how they smile like pigs in a sty See how they snide I'm crying Semolina pilchard climbing up the Eiffel tower Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allan Poe I am the eggman They are the eggmen I am the walrus Goo goo g' joob Goo goo g' joob Goo goo g' goo goo goo g' joob goo juba juba juba juba juba juba juba juba juba juba juba juba |

Someone already mentioned it, but I'm pretty sure stairway to heaven is about enlightenment (whether Robert Plant knows it or not). From Wikipedia: "My hand was writing out the words, 'There's a lady is sure [sic], all that glitters is gold, and she's buying a stairway to heaven'. I just sat there and looked at them and almost leapt out of my seat." I mean look at the last 4 lines: And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll. Awesome. Erock |
