| I haven't really delved into this area but I have come across it many times and am interested to find out more from others who have done so. Is it like intuition (precognition) or more like spiritual sight where you can perceive other entities? How do you open the third eye?

| I don't know if this is a good idea to open your third eye on purpose. Because if you haven't sorted your life completely out yet, you just add some new problems to deal with. Think of visions of your own death or the huge responsibility that comes with it. But maybe I'm wrong and it's just a fantastic new option?!

| If you can get to Love or Unconditional Love, it begins to open of its own. You begin to look at things in terms of essence rather than linear content. So a good way to begin is to let go of having an opinion about everything and making judgments about everything. Be open minded and heal any harsh positions you hold. There are exercises that are supposed to help with the third eye. I'm not sure how effective they are though. I haven't researched them in particular depth. Most exercises in this vein involve breathing white light to the chakra you wish to activate. I always thought it was more the intention than the mechanics that had the effect. Good luck! |

| I'll add this to my blog list. I have a lot to say on this subject and I want everyone to benefit.

| It's not as easy as some new agers would have you believe. The ajna chakra aka third eye "opens" only once you have managed to bring Kundalini Shakti all the way up to that level from your Mooladhara chakra at the base of the spine. Most people rarely have their consciousness go higher than the Mooladhara. Even bringing it up to the Anahata or heart chakra is a major accomplishment in itself. What you can do fairly easily is cleanse the Ajna chakra and energize it. The Ajna is blocked by ego, or a sense of personal doership as a separate physical entity. Surrender to existence or an enlightened Master whom you trust helps create greater awareness of the third eye. Gazing with an unfocused look at the flame of a wick lamp filled with ghee (clarified butter) is a yogic exercise which can help create that awareness as well, but is a slow method. Repeated deep meditation experience of Samadhi (where only pure consciousness remains, and experiencer and experience have merged into the void) is the best way to start functioning from the higher chakras. If you'd like to see an interesting video about the third eye as demonstrated by SPECT scan brain imaging, check out this podcast. |

| I have not paid much attention to chakras in my meditation (just happens that I follow the "non-chakra" traditions) - but there is something that can be relatively easy to feel in meditation, if you want to, and it happens to be right in the middle of your forehead, where ajna is supposed to be. All you have to do is breathe deeply, clear your mind and focus your attention around your head region. Pretty soon you will feel a mild but distinct pressure in the middle of your forehead where ajna is supposed to be. It's like a finger pressing against your skull, but from the inside. |

| Hi, I am new to this forum (my first post) and I am hoping I've placed this under the correct area. I have been meditating in a group environment (after exercise) for 3ish years (at least once weekly). Strange things have been happening to me and I am wondering if anyone can provide insight as to what it all means and what my next steps should be. I'll start with just one thing ... After meditation I rubbed my hands together and was then told to place then over my eyes. When I did this I felt an extreme power pushing my head back (that almost knocked me over) and then I got a brutal headache. Anxiously awaiting opinions. |

| Mine just opened on its own.... i think we as intuitives have times when we are more in tune and other times when we are not..... the kundalini works out our blockages in areas too.... and i did not see this out , i do think* ( not absolutely sure yet) that is what has happened to me just this year |

| I guess from reading the other posts here, I view the third eye a bit differently. I see it as perceiving truth. Perception is for the most part dependent upon our belief filter, which isn't always the same as correct perception. When we let go of the past, identity formed beliefs, judgment and so forth, and are open to the present moment & unconditional acceptance - we then have the "eyes to see" & "ears to hear" or "true perception" which imho = knowledge & understanding. This to me isn't the same as clairvoyance, but is more about not being bound by egoic beliefs & judgments. |

I've been reading this and using it as my main reference, as I relate to much of it from my own Kundalini experience........ there is so much more to the Kundalini then what is being discussed here thus far.. I was just trying to convey that in my estimation it isn't about seeing the future or some kind "psychic" ability - but about perceiving clearly. |

| I guess the difference lies in what I believe. If I believe there is a separate outer reality, then there is a place in that reality for a prophet or seeing the future. If I believe the outer reality is a reflection of an inner state of being, then it takes on a different meaning, one of perceiving truth. I prescribe to the second example but for those who do not I can understand the belief in seeing the future & psychic ability. In each belief there is the movement from identity based belief to knowledge. |

| I have heard that walking barefoot on bare earth activates the pineal gland, or the "third eye". I got this information from the following site: Solar Healing Center |

| To me it's more like a combined tightness and mild itch. I also see swirling purple lights at times, which I take to be related.

When it happens to me, I'll feel the top of my head open up as well. If I focus on other chakras, a similar energetic feel will happen.
