I have been contemplating outer space here and when you do it long enough you just shut down and start from square one. Think about it and tell me what you think. Ok so we have galaxies and stars along with moons and planets and so on. Now take away everything. So we have black or space. How did it get there? How did space get there? Did it just poof or was it created? Who created it and who created the creator? Who created the creators creator? What if space was once not there? So it was just nothing there? How did that nothing just get there? You see where I’m going? It’s impossible that space and everything was just there because there would have to be something or someone that put it there but then again there would have to be something or someone that put that something or someone there to and so on. So how in the space did this happen? Last edited by dennis08; 09-11-2007 at 04:56 AM. |

You'll never find a satisfactory answer to that question as long as you think of it in terms of linear time -- the realm of beginnings and endings. You could chase chains of causation indefinitely. Afterall, if God created it, who created God, and who created the being who created him and so on... The answer is that is wasn't a nothing, nothing, (bam!) something type of situation. Everything has always existed and always will. Nothingness has never existed and cannot exist. And because nothingness never existed, everything had to exist and always has existed, and always will exist. Reality is infinite in all directions. Any perception to the contrary is because you dreamed the separation dream, a dream involving this illusory thing called scarcity and lack. Of course, all things that have a beginning also eventually have an end. One day, the universe of linear causation will end, and you will return to your "natural" state of oneness where paradoxes of duality like the one you mentioned above simply don't exist...until you dream of a beginning again... | |

It sounds like you need to wrap your brain around the idea of "eternity", Dennis. Eternity basically means that something has always been. When something has always been, how can it possibly have been created? Empty space is something that can certainly said to be eternal, so no need to create it. It's just always been there. The same would be true for God, at least if you go by the definition most Western religions give of him.
