If I want to clean my room so that I can be an example to others of cleanliness, and orderliness, would that be trying to control other people?

Ahaha, just providing new fodder for people to overthink.

I say - Just Clean Your Room! The matter is not one that really merits too much philosophical examination amd scrutiny.

Lol, I don't know what brought this question, but yes – if you're cleaning your room, and one reason for that is to provide an example to other people for them to also clean their rooms, then in a way, you're trying to control other people, but in a positive way.

Well, actually, you aren't trying to control other people, but you are trying to influence them positively. That is assuming cleaning your room is a positive thing. You can really go down the deep end with this one, Lol.

I'm checking out of this one now.

I wouldn't worry about this too much. By this definition, Gandhi and Mother Teresa were master manipulators. It's true in this way but it can't really be compared to passive-aggressive behavior.

I would say no as I always have a choice as to whether I want to follow in your footsteps. I don't want to clean my room.

Doing anything with the intent that it affects others is trying to control them, pretty much definition.

Since when do people do things just because you do them, though? I do a lot of laundry, and nobody else in my household follow my example! I'm still the only laundry-washer around here.

The reason I asked was I've been using the Sedona Method and they teach about letting go of wanting to control. I've been letting go, but this situation came up.
