 |  Some people give me weird looks
I do not treat them differently. They squint their eyes people in their 20s and early 30s do this. I have to look like I know better than them to get the same respect. I thought this was an American thing because this happened when I was a little kid when we went to America only one kid did it my stepmother does (she is not American) and black people do it. A stranger did it while I was out for a walk and my dad mentioned that she was stirring. The way they talk to me it sounds like they are putting me down.

Does squinting eyes mean something where you come from? Squinting your eyes at someone here, does not mean anything. They may have the sun in their eyes, they are concentrating on what you are saying, or they have something in their eye. The way they talk to me it sounds like they are putting me down Do you have an accent? Many Americans unfortunately have not traveled abroad and our schools are terrible about teaching anything about other countries. So they might be thinking because you have an accent that you are not as intelligent or they need to talk louder or slower. But they are the ones who are stupid. I wouldn't let it bother you. |
