Default Middle Child Syndrome - Farce or Fact?

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a SR deal, but just by my saying it I could be pointing out the problem and solution in the beginning of my own thread, haha.

Anyway, any middle children here? Do you believe that Middle Child Syndrome is real? Have you had issues with your parents that stand out in your mind that you would classify solely as because you were the middle child?

Just curious (I'm going through some drama with my parents now and I think finding the problem will help lead me to the solution )

I googled it and found two mutually exclusive definitions of middle child syndrome. Can you please point to which one you're referring to?

Anyway, any middle children here? I am a middle child.

Do you believe that Middle Child Syndrome is real? I believe it is real.

Have you had issues with your parents that stand out in your mind that you would classify solely as because you were the middle child? Not so much from behavior from my parents as much as my tendency to be very different than my brother and sister. I have always been the 'wild' one, or the black sheep so to speak. My mother once told me I walked to the beat of a different drum, and I've always been a bit different. Although, I'm not sure if these differences are due to 'middle child syndrome' or just that I am genetically different somehow from my other two siblings.

I feel the same way. I'm def. "different" but it took a lot of growth to be able to express myself without trying to fit in to my surroundings and just be myself.

I think it's real to an extent, I certainly feel like I was treated MUCH differently than my brother and sister.

If you are more specific with your 'problem with your parents', you may find a bit more help with it.

I was pretty much labeled as selfish by my mother in my later teen years. I think she wasn't far from the truth, but the problem was I didn't just follow because 'that's where everyone else was going'. I always asked, "Why is it like this." " Why do I have to do it this way." So that came off as very self centered from my family's veiwpoint. And I can't say today that their assessment was off-base.
