Exclamation Here's an idea...

I've always been very likeable and had lots of not very close friends. I get the feeling people don't really know what to make of me when they first meet me, but then always end up liking me. I'm an INTP personality type (Myers-Briggs).

This is fine, except for when it comes to the opposite sex. I am a 20 yo male in Perth, Western Australia, and have virtually no experience with the opposite sex. I tried a little hopelessly when I was 14, and then gave up, assuming I just wasn't 'one of those guys', but that it would happen in time. Well... it hasn't happened. I'm very interesting, intelligent and likeable, and attractive girls have been attracted to me a number of times, but I just don't know what to do with it. I don't want the rejection, I don't want to come across sleazy, so I just repress that part of me. I feel like I'm truly settling in this area of my life and it's time for me to get it handled. (As Mr DeAngelo would put it.)

So this is it. I'm going to do it. This is my commitment. I'm working from the ground up. This is my action plan:

For the first week of April, I will approach and initiate a conversation with a stranger every day. For the second week, two strangers a day. For the third week, three, and the fourth week, four. I'll build the muscle. It doesn't matter who the people are, as long as I've never met them or even seen them before. They can be 85 year old men, as long as they're strangers. My objectives are the following:

A. To make the person smile or laugh.
B. To find out their name.
C. To find out something about them.

Easy, huh? My ultimate aim is to improve my social skills to the point where I have total freedom and choice to the exact people and type of people I spend my time with, both male and female, and to enjoy any type of relationship with them, on my terms. I'm taking Steve's advice and starting my personal development journey with my weakest area.

I will succeed. Of that I have no doubt. I will document my results, either in my personal journal or online, depending on whether anybody's interested or cares to join me.

Please let me know if you are interested in joining me or offering advice. If there is any like minded Perth-ites who would be keen to start a Mastermind group I would be very interested in that. I am very keen to get this sorted.

LittD.

Default you go man...

Sounds like an excellent plan. You know what to do, you know where your self defeating thoughts have been, so you can catch them when they try to trip you up. You have the tools in place.

Keep us posted as this sounds like a great exercise in personal growth.

blessings,
Pam

I'm very glad to hear that you're doing something like this, LittD. Do you have a blog? If so, I'd highly recommend writing about your personal goals. On my website, for example, I plan to feature a number of "projects" similar to this, and I encourage readers to try their own. And if you don't have a blog... get one! There's no better motivator than an audience.

Heck yeah man. Have fun. Good luck. Rock on! INTPs are cool. Be free.

By the way, if you want to start a blog, you can just go to Blogger.com or something. It's pretty simple.

Hey guys, thanks for your messages of support.

I've started a blog, and in the blog I'll post every day to document my progress and my thoughts and perspectives.

You can find my blog at:
