We both dance, I was friends with her roommate so I ended up hanging out with her, she wanted someone to cuddle with and I kissed her once. 2 years later now, we both find it weird that that led to a good long term relationship.

I asked her out, but she kept fobbing me off. Gave up after a few tries (we kept in touch via e-mail). Then she had some time off from work and asked if I wanted to meet up for a coffee. 2 days later I moved in and never moved out

I asked her if she wanted to come racing with me (we met through running), but after that, much of the communication was getting to know each other through e-mail.

Is this the sort of thing you had in mind? Occurs to me, you might be asking for a strategy for asking someone out, which isn't really the same as what you asked.

Historically, my previous girlfriends initiated approach.

But If there was a girl I really liked, I made small steps to get her to admit she liked me... but they were seriously small... like telling bad jokes to see if she would laugh at them. It's a really simple test to tell if someone likes you. If someone likes you they tend to laugh at bad jokes you tell.

The girls who approached me mainly used physical cues such as leaning on me or using feminine wiles.

For the girls I approached I generally was very slow and easy about it. I'm not a hardliner and I don't go in guns ablazing with flowers and chocolate or mushy crap. I take it slow and am completely honest about wanting to get to know them before the prospect of dating. I say it like "Hi Jenn, we met 2 weeks ago through a friend. I thought you were very entertaining and this week I'm headed to a jazz club with some friends. Would you like to come?" And then when I meet her we talk and then that's the chance to see if a relationship prospect is there...

Most guys F*** this up because they take any walking living thing with a vagina. Fact is, most girls are nuts. You want to make sure knock on them a few times to make sure they aren't hollow before you break open the shell and begin dating.

My girl and I met over twenty years ago. I had worked at a restaurant with her sister who said that we ought to meet.... We got together briefly, but since we were going in two different directions it did not last.. we saw each other periodically even working together for a time... but nothing happened til last year when she contacted me and asked if I needed some help on the farm... SO she came for a few days and thats how it all started...we are in different sates, but the distance has not been so horrible... we do see each other fairly often..

We met at a party because I approached her. I asked her number and called the next day and asked her out to go to the movies to watch The Hangover, to go to the zoo and to go for a walk. She resisted for close to two weeks (I never gave up) until she texted me to come to her place. Later we did all of those things I asked her in the beginning.

I did that once (not with my wife). Sometimes I think I did everyone a favour, other times I think I was a real bastard for doing it.
