Default How not to rape people.

In light of the recent thread on rape which caused some people confusion and others frustration, I thought I'd share some helpful guidelines on how not to rape people, as set out by one of my favourite satirists. This will be of particular relevance (and bittersweet amusement) to the aussie forum members.

When I first saw this title I though.. ok, there we go, another person who's asking for a ban...

But... very funny article indeed Thanks for the laugh! (as a woman, I'm not in the habit of raping people in general. But I guess if I was a guy and a football player, this would come in handy!).

Ha, classic. This was a fun, clever read, thanks Grace.

Vince, I think my last non-rapist met you while you were in prison. He's over here nodding. He remembers the non-romantic moment you two had.

That first comment was very funny... "I'm not raping a woman right now. It's easy once you get the hang of it."

It is rather funny!

But there are some truths to it...

There was a recent case in my town of a woman who claimed to have been raped by a couple of guys, when all indications was she was willingly with them (albeit drunk...probably very drunk). In the end, the court decided that she wasn't raped.

Problem is, guy gets it on with drunk girl... girl is too drunk to know what the f*&k she is doing... girl ends up having sex with guy (while still apparently conscious but not really with it)...girl wakes up in the morning going "ZOMG I WAS RAPED!" Guy is like

Anyway, I particularly liked this line: "Practise not having sex with people. I know it's hard - sometimes you just look down and it's like, whoops, I'm having sex with this girl, how did that happen?"

Reading this thread just reminded me how ADD ridden I am.

I was looking for that bit that George Carlin did about rape on youtube...and then I saw some Louis CK bit about it...and then I just started watching clips of Louis CK that I thought looked funny and before I knew it, 90 minutes had passed and I do not even remember where it went, but I've been laughing!

Hmm... I don't want to draw any strict judgment against one for drunkenness, but I don't like it at all and it somehow seems irresponsible... likewise, having sex with a severely drunk person seems irresponsible. It seems very irresponsible if one is sober. Is a severely drunk person really in a state to consent? Sex is something we have evolved intricate mating methods for, it is so central to our evolution, and it is so intimate of a bodily exchange... it just seems uncool to be having sex with someone who cannot engage in any of that with any reasonable level of coherency. This is what sex ed should be about, not abstinence.

I'm not saying it's a good idea to have sex with a drunk woman, but I wouldn't define it as rape either. And most times, the guy's not completely sober either (but probably not so off his head that he can't perform). For some guys it's a dream come true finding a willing woman, even if she is drunk. Drunk women can also get really into it, without really knowing what they're doing IYKWIM... they can sort of let it happen. Of course, regrets come later.

The real moral of the story is don't drink so much alcohol that you lose all your inhibitions and have no idea what you're doing. That's asking for trouble!

I got the joke. But the point? Is there a point to this besides satire?

Because despite the satire, there was a certain degree of truth in it?
