Smile Is there anyone you'd be willing to die for?

Martin Luther King said (right before he was assassinated), "If you have nothing for which you are willing to die, then your life is not worth living." It's ironic how the willingness to die for something or someone makes us come alive. Is there anyone in your life who you'd be willing to die to protect? Is there any cause or commitment that you'd be willing to die to advance? Is there any moral standard that you'd be willing to die rather than violate?

Very very touchy subject, but a great one.

I would think most good loving families would die for another member. Also I feel a lot of good hearted people would die to protect a child or innocent person. That's my own values though I suppose. But besides that realm, probably a few close friends aswell.

Cause? None at the current moment. If it was something like sacrificing my life to save tons of people (or the world), if I HAD to, then probably yes. Political ideas, probably not. I'm kind of dissgusted with politics at the moment.

Note that there is a big difference between taking life endangering risks for somebody and dieing for somebody ...
Personally, I'd die only for my children when I have some.

I really doubt I would ever be in the position to have to die to protect anyone, but if it came to that, then I would do it for my children.

I'll decide when such a situation arises. Things like these cannot be planned in advance. This is a decision of the heart and the heart decides when the heart decides.

Any of my family members probably. In all honesty, I could chicken out if it came down to it. Like a deer in headlights. Nobody wants to consciously throw themselves into danger.

I think Steve Jobs once said, "Nobody wants to die. Even the people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there."

I would not die for anyone, but I'd die for me.

Not exactly for egotism, but for freedom. I'd rather die standing than live on my knees. Or in other words, if I was between the sword and the wall, I'd fight till I win, or I'd fight till I die.

That is not to say that I could predict that it would be my reaction in a sudden, violent life-or-death situation, since it has never happened to me yet (I could perfectly chicken out). But I definitely value much more freedom than safety.

If I had to chance, I would die for anyone. Really. Except for G.W. Bush

if i could guarantee or even have a strong belief that sacrificing myself would produce a positive result, i might be willing to do it. hard to say without being in that position.

however, most self-sacrifices i've witnessed have come out of weakness more than strength. i.e., the martyr syndrome. and as we all know, that is possibly the least effective way to live.

Nope. Nothing.

But, if you get me in the right mood, I might put myself in harm's way simply b/c I want to. It won't have as much to do with the thing outside myself as some ppl will assume, though.

Default Who...?

My wife, and I don't care what anyone else says my dog and cat. They are our children and I treat them as such.

This is an interesting question. Personally, I believe our experience now on this Earth is all we have. We cannot remember anything before we were born and I don't believe we will remember anything after we die. So, when we die the universe for us will cease to exist just as it never existed before we were born. Therefore what use will it be dying for some cause, if that cause and everything we know will cease to exist?

when ill die the world would stop from existing (or it will exsist but i will not able to do anything with it).
so i think ill sacrefise my life only for something that i truly need to have normal life. if i can live without it, ill not bother to give my life for it.

I wouldn't willingly die for anything or anyone. However, I'd certainly be willing to make a lot of sacrifices.

My family and my friends.

Part of it would be real love. But if I think carefully, if faced with such a dramatic decision I decide to let the other person die, I would not be able to look at my self in the mirror for the rest of my life. So I guess there would be something else to it.

I would die to experience death because I always wonder what it is like.
