Hi guys Ok whilst I have no quips with Meeting, Dating (and sleeping with) girls/women from my own Country here in the UK, I had an idea after seeing friends and aquanitences and even a few programmes where someone learnt a new language and managed to find love abroad. My sister is English but found love with a German lad, my sisters friend is Swedish but found Love with a German, some guy I knew learnt Spanish and is Dating any Spanish speaking woman. As a red blooded Male I'd love to learnt to speak fluent Swedish- as a person who has a preference for blondes I wonder why this is Now I know about "expats" dating each other whilst on Holiday but has anyone moved to a foreign Country and found love? |

I went to Mexico to study, fell in love, came back to the Netherlands for Christmas and to introduce him to my parents, went back to Mexico with him and never looked back We are together now for 5.5 years, 3.5 of those married. Extremely happy together although there were some initial communication issues to solve

I've met and fallen in love with two women not from my home country (USA), but they both speak English, and were here in the states when we met, so it doesn't rightly apply to your question. I do think that while dating, people notice others who are "different" and those differences can lead to attraction. By learning a new language and getting out of your comfort zone, you're saying volumes about who you are, plus instead of being just another bloke from the UK trying to pick up chicks from the UK, you're an "exotic" British man in Sweden, with an endearing accent. I think it's a great idea, I can't think of any possible down sides to learning a new language and exploring a different culture. |

I think on the surface this sounds like a really cool and awesome idea. But, from your thread history, I'll just say that the problems you have in your native language will all still exist in the language you choose to learn. Although, thinking about it, perhaps learning a new language will help equip you with more tools with which to describe the issues you face. |

Even if its for the something to add onto my CV or that I learnt new people skills I'm definately up for it. I love reading, learning and taking up new projects and I don't think anything would be more constructive than taking language classes locally with a language (even that activity in itself is yet another constructive hobby I can take up). I'm not pinning my hopes on "finding love in Sweden" or anything but at the same time I don't see anything wrong with having preferences.

I did read it again recently and there was a lot of negativity and I realised in the past few weeks I followed a lot of ill advised past-times and spent too much time resenting certain pastimes (PUA for example both studying that crap BUT also wasting my time hating on it and myself- as well.). Luckily I feel some foreign travel in the next few years would do me good and help me start interacting with people without expecting anything back.

Hmm whats interesting about your reply Sandra is that you had an alternative reason to be in Mexico. Although a trip to Sweden would be interesting I'm trying to think what I would do over there? The thing is being from the UK- usually its the opposite. People come to the UK to study as we have world renowned Universities and Colleges, some come here because of our history, some to learn the English Language. I'm just trying to think what I could accomplish in Sweden apart from knowing a secondary language. Quote:

For example if you have a hobby, you can do that hobby or learn about that hobby in Sweden. Alternatively, I don't believe that you should have another reason besides traveling, getting to know new people, learning a new language, learning a new culture, etc. That's plenty to accomplish already and enough to give you a complete new outlook on life.

Indonesia seems to have more indigos, I'd love to go there and definitely open to finding love there with one. I definitely don't feel I NEED to do so to find what I'm looking for, though...
