Thanks for the link to the article. It was well written and certainly was informative about the lady and her view of herself and her work.

| This is very good advice. In Illinois the video would be legal but any voice recording made without permission is a crime. I believe the hidden non obvious cell phone recordings would be a crime in this state. |

Also, if it is illegal to record voices secretly, what does that say about all the hidden video in those "news magazine" shows? Sometimes they blur the face, but keep the voice; and they definitely have not got permission. Thanks for the advice. We definitely want to follow the Law.

I don't know about other states, but I lived in Florida for a number of years and you could not do secret recordings. I'm not sure about police though. A few years ago, a journalist who was trying to get a story on a shady politician (before he committed suicide) lost his job and got into legal trouble for secretly recording their final conversation.

That would be a wiretapping violation. And that should remain illegal in most cases. If someone is operating in public, especially "performing" for cameras, and then there are "extra" cameras, that doesn't seem to me like it should be a crime. And in bathrooms, the law is ass backward! Just use common sense. What would be more uncomfortable for most people: having bits of a conversation exposed, or having their privates exposed?

I've been thinking. I think when you are walking up to the working women and asking them to go talk for an hour at their usual rate many of them are going to believe you really do not wish to talk but will make use of their usual services when you are in a room with them. What do you think?

It's very possible that people paying them just to talk isn't as unheard of, to them, that most of us might imagine. There are lots of lonely people out there, and some prostitutes have big hearts beneath the rough exterior.

It's not rocket science how to approach women/men prositutes. Just say something like "Hi my name is such and such, I am in the process of putting together a documentary about different peoples lives, yadda, yadda, I'm really interested in telling a story from the perspective of a prostitute, do you have any idea of who, or where I would start in finding volunteers wishing to contribute by telling their story".

Going to the police or go to a higher authority first is the right thing. Not only you may get info on how to conduct the research, but also you may get the proper permissions. Also talking to your lawyer would be a good idea.

Who said I had a lawyer? Why would I waste my hard-earned money on a "suit"?

1. Street walkers probably won't give you much more than a passing glance and a no if you do anything other than show interest in a date. Plus, the pimps are usually out close by watching everything anyway, and with drugs as prevelant as they are in that community then who knows what could happen just approaching. Best to be safe on that one. 2. Many of the high end casinos here have what is referred to as a "hooker" bar. Its usually the main bar where they congregate to pick up men. Althought not technically street walkers, they still do the same thing. That might be the safest way to approach the subject with them. I have no clue where you live, but I do know that there are girls that advertise their "escort" services online, and you pay with paypal. (welcome to the 21st century!) And, since its cybersapce, and you have no plans to actually meet for a transaction, she might be willing to take your pay for a phone call, email, webcam chat?? I do not know but its worth a try anyway. 3. As sad as this is, most strip clubs have a few local girls that are known to prostitute, so maybe you could go in there and talk to a few girls, pay for their time and what not. Best to be safe on this point.
