Default Guys: Do you prefer Blondes or Brunettes?

I was discussing this with my female friend, and she insists that guys prefer blondes. She acts as if this is incredibly obvious, and cites the fact that we often say "blonde hair, blue-eyed" when we want to conjure up a typical beautiful woman.

This question is more relevant in places where there is a good number of blondes -- dark hair is much more common throughout the world. But in your opinion, which do you and your male friends prefer? To me, it seems as if many WOMEN think blonde is sexy, and they assume men feel the same.

As you might have guessed, I have a preference for dark hair myself

There may be a disconnection between what you say you prefer and the way you act. As a blonde who used to dye my hair brown, I can tell you that even if they are not aware of it, men's behaviour change slighty. They treat blondes as cute, childish, and yes, more desireable creatures, whereas brunettes are taken more seriously, like grown ups and soetimes even like "one of the guys".

hair closest to my hair colour (light-brown) is what I'm most attracted to.

I think all hair colours can be attractive, and also it's unfair to base people on their hair colours, but attraction isn't a choice..

Did you mean to post this in the Health & Fitness forum? I'm not quite sure how it's relevant to either.

I a stickler for blonde hair and brown eyes (but only if both are natural...or at the very least LOOK natural).

But blond hair and brown eyes is pretty rare.

I'll take a brunette any day of the week over a blond.

Hair and eye color are not in the top ten of my preferences for thinking a woman sexy.

Blonde hair and brown eyes is not rare. I prefer attractive women over ugly women. Many women dye their hair blonde and some of the dye jobs are bad.

It appears that I like more dark haired women than blonde women but it has nothing to do with their hair color. Some women are so beautiful that they get too much unwanted attention from men. They are not going to dye their hair.

This one 19 year old women had brown hair but had a great face and body. She said that guys are constantly asking her out. She has had boys as young as 15 ask her out and guys as old as 63 ask her out. I had asked her out and so you would you if you saw her.

Now if you are a homely (ugly) brown haired girl then you may think that guys like blondes better so you dye your hair. Now you are a homely blonde haired girl. So do guys prefer left handed girls or right handed girls? Demi Moore has dark hair and Britney Spears has blonde hair. A picture of Britney when she was pregnant showed her being fat. On the other hand there was a picture of Demi Moore naked and pregnant on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine. Some people have a natural hair color that is brown and blonde like dirty blonde.

It completely depends on the girl. The shape a woman keeps herself in and how she presents herself overwhelmingly overcomes hair color, eye color, or skin color for me.

For some reason, though, I do tend to think a blonde will be more bubbly or ditzy. Maybe it's some kind of self-fulfilling prophecy (they are 'supposed' to act like that so more blondes do, or I expect their behavior to be that way so I see what I expect to see)?

No preferences, physically speaking it totally depends on cuteness/facial beauty then body type.

Although that little mustash thing, yes it's noticable! Please wax, shave, whateva.

Yes, I did -- I guess my thinking was that it was an issue of personal appearance, which I associate with health. I almost put it in the Social/Relationships section -- maybe it should've gone there.

BTW, ever since I was a kid I prefered Veronica over Betty (not sure if the youngsters or people outside the U.S. will get the reference).

Hair color has almost no preference for me.
Red-heads tend to express more colorful mix & match in their clothes...which is kind of nice from a style perspective.

There's the David Deida theory, that blondes have a "cooling" effect, and brunettes have a "heating" effect on their man. So, a real aggro-Type A personality would benefit from having a blonde woman who'll cool him down, and a real closed-up-in-his-shell Type B personality would benefit from a dark-haired brunette who'll liven him up.

Funny, I've just been experimenting with hair color (pics in photo album in my link).

As someone who's been every color under the sun, I have to agree with Aelle, cause I find I'm treated a little differently with blonde hair, though I get hit on more with dark hair (maybe I'm more approachable).

Well, may sound like a dodgy response, but my experience is that the blonde / brunette variable isn't a reliable factor. I like meeting the person, and can say I have met great girls from either category (and not-so-great from either too). It's all about the person as a whole.

Still, if one were to take the statistical approach, I'd conclude many of the girls I dated were brunettes... perhaps its something unconscious at work. Or just coincidence.

"dark hair is much more common throughout the world"

Well that settles it I think. Since evolution shows that more dark haired women have survived, it must mean guys like dark hair best.

No, it doesn't. If there would be a strong evolutionary effect all people would have the same hair color.

Talking about this in terms of “bad news” or “bad judgment by business leaders” seems archaic. It’s like describing World War One as “a serious diplomatic concern.”

Ha ha, I LOVED Archie when I was a kid (and I'm only 28 years old). I used to have giant stacks of Archie comics (which are packed away somewhere now) that I'd sit and read for hours on end.

I always liked Josie.

But Betty was better looking than Veronica, but Veronica had more "game" than Betty. Betty was your wholesome American girl.

Neither do I. It used to annoy me, but I've come to appreciate his ability to weave apparently unrelated material into a detailed, but completely non-linear post with its own feel and rhythm. There's something absorbing about careening back and forth between those disparate ideas, images and statements all floating around together in a soup --- reading it is like an attention rollercoaster.

(I'm not being snarky here; it really is pretty cool.)

It still mostly just annoys me ...but for whatever reason I feel compelled to read his posts, maybe I am addicted to being baffled .

I actually realised this morning as I was walking to work that I do think of women kind of like that. I associate blonde hair with young girls, and dark hair with more mature girls (perhaps not older just more mature).

This could just be due to the fact that my younger sister is blonde and my mother is a brunette.

Either way I couldn't say I find one colour more desirable than another.
