Trying to Call...

Hello everyone. First time poster to this forum. Pleased to meet all of you.

Well, let me first say... there is someone I've liked very much for a long time. Ever since High school, in fact. He was instrumental in helping me to graduate when I had to drop out due to health problems. This was in 2003, and I haven't spoken to him since.

He was my math teacher, actually, and he's an extremely fascinating person. I won't say I'm in love with him, but I would really like to seek some sort of relationship with this man. However, we come to the problems...

First of all, I'm 24. He's 39, so that's a major age difference. I know for a fact that he's not married, but he might be gay. I can't know. There's also my problem... I have Asperger's Syndrome, which makes it very difficult for me to communicate with people. I'm terrified. I have his phone number, but even thinking about calling is enough to start me shaking and break into a cold sweat.

I don't know what to do, or to say. This isn't a situation I've ever been in before. I feel like I need some sort of script... something, anything. As scared as I am, I very much would like to talk to him again. What should I do?

First you need to decide what type of relationship you would want with him. Then, if the age difference would be a problem for you (other people don't have a say in this). Then, you might email him, tell him you want to thank him for his support and hey, maybe have a coffee or something?

Break it up in small steps. Take the steps one by one. And don't worry, if he is interested in starting a relationship, you will find out.
