As the mommy of four cats and a dog, I'm with everyone that says "keep cat, dump boyfriend". Am happy to see how much compassion there is for animals among everyone here. But also, first the cat - what will it be next? Things like this don't usually stop with one thing (such as a cat), next it could be cutting you off from people you love, or something else. This is serious red flag territory to me. If he were really a nice, unmanipulative person and there were really an issue with the cat, he'd be trying to solve it - or at least he'd ignore the cat. Why does he try to pick up the cat all the time when the cat doesn't want it? |

I'd tell him the cat stays, he goes. The cat was there first. The cat is part of "you" and if he can't accept the whole you, he needs to go. There are millions of men out there, but there is only one Kitty. Let's say the cat goes. In a few months, will he decide he doesn't like ___ about your life, will that need to go too? If it makes him "uncomfortable" that you like to, let's say play your music, will he demand the radio go? If he decides that doesn't like your perfume, will he tell you how to shower and dress? (Control freak!) If the cat goes, will you ever sit around your empty home and miss Fluffy... and the slowly begin to resent him? If it doesn't work out with him, will you be bitter about having to give Fluffy away? Can you build a healthy relationship on a foundation of manipulation & resentment? I'll also let you in on a reality because I do alot with animal rescue: adult cat + bad economy = bad outlook for cat. Things are so bad here kittens are being killed in the shelters because there are no homes. Adult cats are unwanted. Who takes them when kittens are "cute", young, and free? Forget the boyfriend for a moment, you have a responsibility to the cat. He did nothing wrong. He's been a good cat, and is it right to push kitty out on the whims of some guy? |
