Hi all, I'd like to talk about a topic that pisses me off. Body hair. I seem to have high testosterone levels. I'm hairy as a monkey. Okay, not really a monkey. But I'm really very hairy for a woman. In my natural state I don't have hair only on my calves like others, no I have it all over my legs, on my butt, on my belly, on the back of my neck and even a little bit on my breasts! Of course I don't let it there, I shave/depilate my entire body. But it's so much work, and I haven't found any really good method. I'm allergic to depilating creams. Depilating with wax is a hassle, and it hurts like HELL, and the hair grows back under the skin. Plus, the hair needs to be quite long, or else it doesn't work very well, and what do I do in the meantime? As for shaving, the hair grows back immediately so I have to shave it every day, or else I end up with a beard in all kinds of inappropriate places. Plus it itches like crazy when it grows back. Both methods irritate my skin, and take a lof of time. I'm SO fed up with this permanent war against the hair! It's such a stupid waste of time!! But of course I won't let the hair on my body. I know it's just social conditioning, but I would definitely find it very humiliating. I thought I'd ask you smart people for advice. Have some of you found a really good method to get rid of body hair?? Do you happen to know a healthy and effective way to get rid of it forever?

You're a mammal, of course you have hair on your body! Man, when I think of all the time I've squandered being at war with my fur, I just want to go back and kick myself in the shins to wake myself up. You are beautiful exactly as you are, hair and all. Ok, that said, I understand laser hair removal is very effective, if a little expensive. (but when you think about how much you can spend over the years on razors, waxing, cremes, etc., I think it is probably a bargain.) |

I cannot imagine how any guy in his right mind would find such a fur attractive. But it's not only about the guys. I just don't feel attractive when I've been too lazy or too busy to take care of it, or when I'm in the process of letting it grow long enough to wax it away. Even when I'm fully clothed and nobody sees it, I just feel kinda ashamed it's there. I feel much more attractive and flirtatious when I know there is no hair underneath my clothes. Quote:
I don't mind it being expensive. You're right indeed that all the waxing and shaving is not only a big waste of time, it's also a big waste of money. I just want to make sure it's really safe, and that it really works.

You can try it on one little spot and see if it works for you without making a big commitment. It used to work best on light skin with dark hair, but they've made advancements in the technology so now you don't need that much contrast for it to be effective. I've heard it described as feeling like a bunch of rubber bands snapping on your skin. Have you ever tried that epilady machine? It pulls your hair out by the root, and some women swear by it. My friend Vicki loves hers because you don't have to use it very often and the hair seems to grow in finer (that may be an illusion, I don't know) and she makes fun of me because when I tried it, I hollered and screamed as if there was someone, well, pulling my hair out by the roots. I guess everyone has a different pain threshold, and mine is very low. |

I started plucking and shaving as a teenager. No one told me to do it, I just naturally assumed that it was the "correct" thing to do. After I got separated I decided to experiment with letting all the hair grow back. I gave it a two and a half year trial period to make sure that I gave my body a chance to experience every season a couple of times. When I met my now boyfriend, he had never been with a "hairy" woman before and I expected to scare him off when we were first intimate (I didn't!). What I found for me, was that I didn't mind the hair under my arms or the stray hairs on my body (admittedly, I am not that hairy), but I just absolutely detested having hairy legs. I wouldn't wear shorts or skirts in the warm weather, wouldn't put on a bathing suit, etc. I decided that whether it is social conditioning or not, I gave it a try and now I needed to honor what feels best for me, without any excuses to others. ( I have MANY friends in my Yoga world that NEVER shave and think its sacrilege to the Divine Goddess to do so.) Anyway, the other day I went to a Laser Hair removal clinic for a price on removing a small amount of hair from the back of both of my legs. About 25 hairs on each leg. She gave me an estimate of $800!!!! For me, that is a little out of reach, but it is permanent. And everything that Angela said about dark hair/light skin, hot rubber bands snapping on your skin are accurate. The other thing she said is that it works best if your skin has not been exposed to ANY sun for a good period of time. You also have to make repeat visits. Good luck Rose! |

I am a very hairy guy, and I'm learning to accept that. I always did want to be like Beast from X-Men, although it was mostly for the brain and athletic prowess combination. Guess the LoA wasn't specific on that one!

Are you on hormonal birth control? Some types of birth control promote hair growth while others reduce it. Here's a great source (in French) about the topic: Martin Winckler's webiste. As far as I know, electrolysis is the only permanent method, although all methods that pluck out the bulb (plucking, waxing, threading) will cause the hair to get thinner overtime. I like threading for its eco-friendliness and the very minimalist material it requires. |

You guys are complaining about body hairrr. You can't have more than me! I am brown, wheatish skin and DARK hair that stands out because of the contrast. AND I have it all over my body (not so much on the back, neck, hands and feet). I have decided to touch no hair on my body other than legs, arms and underarms. I would love to have a hairless tummy |

two steps 1. get one of these (or similar) PHILIPS BODYGROOM - Royal Philips Electronics 2. develop a good system of removing unwanted hair (e.g. grooming body twice a week for 20 minutes with favorite music playing) all the best |
