Default Love and Marriage in Vietnam

I stumbled across this while Googling around, and figured I'd share it. What follows is some guy's angst-ridden post... well, not really. It's a Vietnamese perspective, that's only a year and a half old, on love and marriage. Mostly. At "Preventative Puree", he dives deep into personal, Livejournal-style rambling that, while really nice to hear, isn't terribly academic.

Here's my favorite quote from it:

Quote:
Please note: All references to “love” in this article pertain to the romantic, couple-y type love, ok? - the exciting type the gets the most press - and NOT the more common types of love that actually DO make the world go around.
Okay, so I picked that one more for the entertainment value than actual substance.

Here's a better one:

Quote:
Independence is a strange concept in a communist country. Certainly people here – especially people 30 plus - are as similar in character as corn flakes. But my friends – my closest friends – are so varied. All so different. But one factor they all have in common, one factor I respect in them so, so much - is the strength to be themselves.
The Dave Reports :: Love, Actually (Part 1)

Reactions? And no, it doesn't look like there's a Part 2, unfortunately.
