What kind of a person does it take to go abroad for studies, in a country of an unfamiliar language? How do I determine whether or not I'll end up giving up because of language issues? Note that I'll only be applying to programs taught in English, meaning the education itself won't be a problem. However, I'm thinking more in terms of socializing and getting along with citizens of that country. Will I make it?

It takes some bravery and lots of effort to immerse yourself in a place that's different. It takes time to feel the actual reward from the hard work. But your language skills will improve once you get there. Subtle social skills that languages cannot express can also improve. |
