Unhappy best friends drifting apart

i was wondering if any here can offer any advice on my situation. i'm a girl and in high school i had a best friend and we were really tight. anyways after high school, we went to different colleges (in the same city still). the first year we were apart we were still really close because we still had a lot in common and talked on phone, text messaging, facebook, etc. however this past year (our 2nd year of college), i feel like we've drifted more apart. we don't talk on the phone anymore, we text each other but it's not often, and she has basically a new group of friends now who she's really tight with. i know them because i've hung out with them a few times but not what you would call "close friends." when we do see each other now to hang out its kind of awkward at times 'cause there would be this like uncomfortable silence 'cause i dont know what else to say to her. and whenever we hang out she's always texting her other friends. and sometimes when she goes out, she'll invite me but it seems like a last resort thing because she'd text me about it like a few hours before the event happens.

i just don't really know what to do, i don't really know many people that go to my school so i haven't really made that many friends, let alone good friends to hang out with often. it feels like she wants to distance herself from me because of her new group, i have a feeling some of them don't like me either so it's kind of weird whenever i do hang out with them.

any advice here? sorry for the long post...

High school friends often drift apart. I would say to try to make friends at your college, so that you can have your own group of friends. Consider joining a sorrority, as they can be an excellent way to meet new people and make new friends.

im sorry for your situation and deeply sympathize with you. simply saying "find new friends" doesn't address the issue. yes, it is probably the only pragmatically progressive action you can take, but i'd imagine you feel betrayed by your friend inside.

the only help i can offer you is to say that people suck. even people who were our close friends. i've found that many people are only friends out of convenience (ie: they make friends wherever they go and drop the old ones). they don't understand and appreciate deep relationships with history behind them and there is basically nothing you can do to make them see it.

i know it sucks, but hopefully, you'll find another better friend. trying harder with your old unappreciative friend only makes you look even less apprealing than the present.

good luck
