Default Satisfied, but thinking about old flame

Hey guys, I'd like to make this more of a topic discussion rather than asking for help or advice, despite the prompt being autobiographical.

Has anyone felt very satisfied in their relationship, yet they often thought about or even communicated with an old flame? (Obviously, communication can lead to actions and that can be trouble - yikes).

I'm just curious how two people can move on (well, mostly so I guess) and feel in-love and happy and satisfied with their new partners, but still feel drawn in some kind of intense way to their former loves.

I believe that since, in my scenario, we were each other's first loves, there is something unique about each other and our smells and presences etc. that has been locked into our brains permanently. Meanwhile, it's like our brains can't register our current loves the same way, only in a newer and different way.

Thoughts? Experiences? Wisdom?

No one lives entirely in the present; everyone has a memory, and everyone remembers good times in the past, and everyone naturally wants to repeat an enjoyable experience.

It's really not that different from wanting to go back to that awesome Indian place with the absolutely divine curry that you haven't gone to for years... despite being perfectly satisfied with the Italian place you always go to.

Oh man thanks, that cracked me up. This weekend I think I'm in the mood for something spicier... Currytown, ahoy!!

In all seriousness, people get engaged and married to the Italian restaurants and I think that makes one's choice of dining uh... restricted.
