Hey, A spin off from Christian's thread, ActingLikeGodot mentioned that a certain type (INTJ) was characterised by confidence in themselves. Since I do a lot of work on confidence this is interesting to me, so I'd like to discuss it here. I just took a test on humanmetrics.com and I'm ENFJ (100,38,39,1) and I'm confident. I guess what I'm asking is one temperment inherently more confident than another? Confidence here would be defined as confidence in yourself across a range of situations, not just those in which you're highly competent. I've heard of a simpler temperment scale called King Warrior Lover Magician, which is based of Jungian psychology, so this scale is new to me. All input welcome, support your answers with reference to the course text, Colm |

i'm an ENFP (44 50 38 22). i have also tested as an ENFJ sometimes. i'm extremely confident in my ability to jump into any social or working situation and figure it out or at least have a good time trying. i do suffer from insecurity on some things at certain times -- i think we all do. but with few exceptions i am usually able to put the insecurity aside and act anyway. i try hard not to let my fears stop me and, in fact, if i'm afraid of something, i tend to take it as a sign that i should meet that something head on. i would think that confidence would be linked somewhat to extroversion -- not as a hard and fast rule, but if you are comfortable with people, then you are more likely to act with confidence than if you wish you were not around them, you know? |

A little more than a year ago I did that test and scored ISFP. Now just some days ago I gave it another shot and scored ENFJ - same as Colm OReilly. I don't remember those numbers though. Quite a change though, only the Feeling part stayed the same. About confidence...I dunno, I think I'm fairly confident...but as you see, I'm more a Feeler than a Thinker. |

I scored INTJ again (introversion 89, intuitive 62, thinking 1, judging 22). Copy and paste from the explanation: "the knowledge and self-confidence that make them so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead them in interpersonal situations." "Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead." So true than i am amazed!!, wow!. Im very confident, in anything except with people, but i belive in god, so that must affect my confidence in a positive way, also, the way i was raised as a child affected me in a negative way, specially regarding people i guess... so that leads me to think that persoanlities are build, or programmed, on the course of childhood. I am very confident, for example, i went to see a japanese movie and i thought japanese was a very interesting languaje, i proposed myself to learn japanese, no problem, i went to learn, then i saw a video about a famous guitarrist, i went to learn guitar, then i wanted to make video-games, so i went to learn programming, and then art, drawing and painting, and even went to college to learn graphic design so i could make video-games, i mean, i allways have in my mind that the only obstacle i have is myself (money is not a big problem though, ha, thank god) and i never think that i cant make something, if i want then i can, except when i must relate to people, then all my powers go away heh, weird!, i guess confidence is built, no body is born with no insecurities. |

I'm an ISFJ according to that test (56 25 62 44), and I have been dating an INTJ for the past 7 years now. He is very confident in his strengths. He is very good in mathematics, for example, and he is pursuing a Ph.D. in that field. He has the self-confidence that if he can't solve a math problem immediately, he will eventually be able to solve it if he puts his mind to it. I have learned a lot from his self-confidence to appreciate my own strengths. That is what I have learned from my INTJ.

I'm an INTP (once took a test which included numbers, but I don't remember them). I would have once considered myself not to have much confidence, but I think over the past few years I've developed quite a bit of it. It started when I landed my first "real" job, around age 15, and grew as I entered college and was forced to create my own existence (so to speak). Over the last year, it's made a quantum leap due to my renewed interests in personal development. If you don't mind, could someone post a link to an online Myers-Briggs which includes the numerical scale? I think that will give more people an idea of what we're talking about. |

We had to take the Myers-Brigg for one of my classes a few weeks ago and this is the site we used Online test based on Jung - Myers-Briggs typology I scored as an ESFJ (67/12/62/33). I apparently always tend to make a very confident impression on people but in all honesty, my lack of confidence has been my main obstacle in life so far. |

CPP (the owner of the MBTI) prevents online MBTI except through them or someone authorized to administer it. There is no free, legitimate MBTI online that I am aware of. I have a https://online.cpp.com account if anyone is interested although depending on the report desired, there would be a fee. I have hundreds of books on Myers-Briggs at Personality and Growth Bookshelf Stephen Power-Book Library: Free personal development, success, inspiration and motivational classics |

I wonder it it's ok to revive the thread? If so, I have commentary 1 You should be very alert when you ask for interpretations and impressions of the MBTI model online. There are all kinds of people out there styling themselves as coaches because they have understood the MBTI at a superficial level and/or derive their entire knowledge on the MBTI system from their personal experiences, that is, one or two real life examples of each type. 2 What's worse, even the authorized MBTI coaches do not always understand the system to perfection. A pop quiz regarding Jungian function hierachy indicated that even trained and certified practitioners didn't know all the data that they were supposed to first hand. 3 Self-esteem lies essentially outiside of the MBTI-system and confidence is mainly derived from self-esteem. However, if you really want to use the MBTI for something in this regard I recommend that you use it as an indicator of agreeableness in a given person where F and P are the properties that make a type more agreeable and T and J are properties that make a type less agreeable. |
