All,

How do you maintain clothes ?By this I mean, what priced clothes($$) do you give for dry cleanings ?How do you care for other clothes ?

I moved to a new house and dont have the manual of the washing machine and dryer.I previously also had NO command over these machines except for some fixed settings I use,but then I was single and dint care..not I have husband and a kid, so have to care for their clothes as well.

I am too lazy to Iron my stuff

Please help!

Do you have any ecological dry cleaners in your area? I try not to buy items that need dry cleaning, but for those few items I do take in, I use Greener Cleaner in the Chicago area.

You might be able to find the manual for your washer and dryer with a web search.

I did a search on google "How To Wash Your Clothes" and several sites came up. Following are a few that looked pretty good.

This one is pretty basic.

How to Wash Your Clothes - wikiHow

This next one has more details.

I just put all my clothes in the machine with generic washing powderstuff on the 40 Celsius program.
UNLESS THE CLOTHES ARE NEW!!! I rarely buy new clothes but when you do, remember they have lots of color that makes old laundry really funky. But that's a lesson you'll learn really quick if you should forget.

RULE: Always fold and hang up ASAP, don't even answer the phone if you have laundry to fold. You'll spare your iron, I don't even own one. I don't use any finer clothes though. If you don't want to iron clothes, don't get a job that requires you to wear clothes that need to be ironed.

Tip: when you've washed (and centrifuged) your shirts, skip the dryer. Instead, put the wet shirt on a hanger. Button up all the buttons, smooth the biggest wrinkles out with your hands, set the collar and then hang it somewhere to dry.

That's how I survived, wearing shirts almost every day for ten years, without ever touching an iron!

(disclaimer: all my shirts are pure cotton, casual looking... so there's no need for them to be absolutely wrinkle free)

I just bought a few really nice pair of jeans, and heres what I did:

Turn them inside out to wash, tumble dry low or medium and lay out to air dry the rest of the way.
If they are a perfect fit, though, just hang them by their bottoms or lay them out to dry.

Quick tip: Felines Basement is great! See if there is one around your area. I got two pairs of Guess jeans that retail for $90 for $30 a piece, and a pair of Paper Denim jeans that retail for around $100 for $50. Its a steal. They are in perfect shape. They have suits and other nice clothing there too.
