Default How old is too old?

For someone under 18, what is the maximum age difference between two people dating before it's starts being a problem? I've heard about the 1/2+7 rule but that doesn't seem to work too well.

Since you're listed as residing in Texas, here you go:

Moral Outrage - Texas - Age of Consent Laws

Ages of consent in North America - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Essentially if the younger person is between age 14 and 17 the other person must be no more than three years older.

Default age is no sign of maturity

you can love everyone. When sex is part of the relationship: the law takes over.

I'm afraid the law takes over a little sooner than that...

i'd say when marriage or sex comes in, law takes over.

laws differ from state to state though.

What about just doing it in consent with his/her parents?

there would still be legal issues involving age.

for instance, in where is it... new york? having sex with anyone 14 or younger as an adult results in a manditory life sentence.

in ohio you don't need parental consent if you're under 25 and your partner is 16+.

the big issue with conscent is, unless it's formally written, how can you prove that they (the parent, or your partner) allowed it to happen? would be something to consider once you find out about the consent laws in your area.

As AK47 mentioned, you'd have to look at the laws for the particular state you're in. In most states, you can freely have sex at 16 or 17, but in order to marry at that age (before 18, or even 21 in some states) parental consent is necessary. Some states allow marriage as early as 14 or 15 if one gets a court order/Judge's approval. Parents CAN NOT give anyone permission to have sex with their minor child.

Here are a couple links to start with:

Marriage Laws in the US by Age

Age of Consensual Sex in the USA
