Not really a poem, but I've always liked Sarah McLachlan's Ice Cream: Your love is better than ice cream Better than anything else that I’ve tried And your love is better than ice cream Everyone here know how to fight And it’s a long way down It’s a long way down It’s a long way down to the place Where we started from Your love is better than chocolate Better than anything else that I’ve tried Oh love is better than chocolate Everyone here knows how to cry It’s a long way down It’s a long way down It’s a long way down to the place Where we started from... |

Go to Poetry.Com: Free Poetry Contest, Poems, Publishing, click on "Reference" near the top of the page, and click on "100 greatest love poems ever written" - you can narrow it down by types of love.

| Why not try to write your own? There are probably tons of poems that are great but if you write one specifically then it will be extra special. And it probably doesn't have to be a good poem - just that you wrote it would come across great.

We are secrets to each other Each one's life a novel No one else has read Even joined in bonds of love We're linked to one another By such slender threads We are planets to each other Drifting in our orbits To a brief eclipse Each of us a world apart Alone and yet together Like two passing ships Just between us I think it's time for us to recognize The differences we sometimes fear to show Just between us I think it's time for us to realize The spaces in between Leave room for you and I to grow We are strangers to each other Full of sliding panels An illusion show Acting well rehearsed routines Or playing from the heart? It's hard for one to know We are islands to each other Building hopeful bridges On a troubled sea Some are burned or swept away Some we would not choose But we're not always free | |

I'm going to vote a NO for writing your own poem unless you're actually a good writer! (It's like being funny. You know if you are or if you aren't.) When my fiance plays "Mojo Pin" on the keyboards, I get chills. He's not a wonderful vocalist, but I can just walk through the lyrics in my head or, if he gets enough wine in me and chides me, to sing along. |

I disagree.... I think the purpose of this special love poem is to express your unique feelings for this other person.... Every poet is a thief so find a line..... a single line that makes you say thats it Thats exactley how I feel... And you have a start.... It doesnt matter how good or not so good the rest of the world thinks it is... It's not meant to be shared with the world... It's time, space, vunrability, and an open heart being shared between two unique souls.... Here's my go... I've come full circle to find your soul I lost my way I've lost the old ways that made me hard and cold I hoped and prayed I found the tears of angels wrapped up in the grace.... of your kiss Hand write your poem in a special note buy a flower not a rose maybe a sunflower buy a piece of good chocolate like Godiva (just a piece or two) and when the time is right under the bright moonlight recite your poem from memory You will connect because that is a real love poem |

Just as long as your poem doesn't start with "Roses are red, violets are blue", you'll do just fine. All that really matters is your intent as the writer and your delivery to your intended audience. If you make it heartfelt and sincere, you could be the worst poet in the world and still get the girl! |
